Job Description

The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering (FSE) is seeking a dynamic and visionary individual for the position of Director of the Fulton Schools Career Center. The Director will lead a team of career professionals dedicated to providing comprehensive career development services to our almost 32,000 undergraduate and graduate students in 25 undergraduate and 48 graduate programs across engineering, technology and computing.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with FSE stakeholders including development teams, marketing, undergraduate and graduate program directors, faculty and administrators to contribute to the experiential learning and overall career readiness of our graduates.  This position also develops and maintains strong relationships with employer partners seeking FSE students through structured recruiting activities.  The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute their workforce expertise to various university initiatives, statewide economic development efforts and corporate engagement activities.

Essential Duties

  • Develops and executes the strategic direction for the Fulton Schools of Engineering (FSE) Career Center.
  • Provides leadership and direction to the FSE Career Center team, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.
  • Develops and implements innovative career development programs and initiatives that align with the needs of FSE students and the evolving job market.
  • Cultivates and strengthens relationships with industry partners, alumni, and employers to expand internship, co-op, and full-time employment opportunities for students.
  • Conceptualizes and oversees the utilization of data-driven insights to assess the effectiveness of career center programs, and makes data-informed improvements
  • Develops strategies for focused budget initiatives for the FSE Career Center that would allow for scale and innovation.
  • Evaluates and oversees the implementation of technology solutions to improve the delivery of services.
  • Confers with university officials, program directors, budget administrators, external advisory boards and/or staff to make determinations for strategic planning, budget development, and management analysis and accountability reports.
  • Collects, analyzes, and prepares data and complex reports for ranking agencies, employers, accreditors, and other stakeholders. 
  • Directly or indirectly supervises Associate Directors and professional staff.  Oversees and participates in the hiring, training, and evaluation of department staff.
  • Reviews, develops, and implements appropriate standards of professional and ethical practice for relevant constituents.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND eight (8) years of related administrative experience, which includes five (5) years of supervisory experience; OR, Twelve (12) years of related administrative experience, which includes five (5) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Evidence of a track record of progressive leadership experience focused on promoting career development in higher education, or in corporate, public, and/or non-profit sectors
  • Experience in supervising, management, and relationship-building skills

  • Experience working with STEM populations in an educational setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the growing role technology plays in delivery of career services

  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective assessment strategies to inform programs and practice
  • Experience developing, interpreting, implementing standards of ethical and professional practice

Working Environment

Activities are performed primarily in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; frequently required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work; bending, stopping, reaching and lifting up to 20 pounds.  Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.  Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.  This position receives regular review of objectives.
