Essential Duties
- Assign and inspect the work of Locksmiths.
- Create, and update the status of work orders
- Ability to coach/mentor locksmiths in their daily task
- Participate in the repair, installation, and service of locks and related hardware (e.g. pinning cylinders and impressioning keys).
- Repair/install combination locks.
- Repair/maintain desk and file cabinet locks.
- Work with floor plans and building schematics.
- Use hand tools (e.g. screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, hand files, picks) and power tools safely (e.g. drills, saws, grinders).
- Install and repair Panic Hardware.
- Operate and maintain Electronic Access Control system, Best A2 and A4 systems and MEDECO Small Format and Biaxial systems.
- Cut new/duplicate keys from existing keys, patterns, or codes.
- Open locks for which there is no existing keys or codes.
- Troubleshoot, repair and install commercial, industrial, residential and educational physical security door locking hardware.
- Maintain master keying systems for both standard and small format.
- Prepare labor and material estimates.
- Ability to communicate with internal and external customers
DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 8:30AM-5:00PM This position requires working a rotating on-call/stand-by schedule and may be called in for emergency response including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Minimum Qualifications
Five years of locksmith experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Employee must possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.

- Supervising the work of others
- Creating and/or maintaining master keying systems, both standard and small formats
- Troubleshooting, repairing, and/or installing commercial, industrial, residential and educational physical security door locking hardware
- Cutting new or duplicate keys from existing keys, patterns, and/or codes accurately
- Work-order systems (e.g. TMA)
- Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Excellent Customer service
- Electronic access and door hardware
- Schlage and Best hardware
Evidence of effective communication skills
Working Environment
Walk in extreme/varying temperatures to service locations throughout campus. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds and climbs ladders to adjust rods/internal mechanisms on doors. Stand or kneel for long periods of time. Drive University vehicles/carts. May be exposed to hazardous and dangerous materials, tools, and equipment which will require safety precautions and/or specific process to be followed, and may include the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) (e.g. safety glasses, hearing protection, negative pressure and positive pressure respirator). Use of PPE may require medical clearance prior to use.

This position is located at the University Services Building, 1551 S. Rural Road, Tempe, AZ (on Rural Road south of Apache Blvd).
Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license upon employment and maintain throughout employment. A Department of Motor Vehicle search will be conducted. Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.
