Job Description
The Hugh Downs School of Human Communication at Arizona State University invites applications for the position of Instructional Specialist Senior (PRN) to provide grading support. The School seeks to establish a pool of qualified applicants with expertise to support a variety of Masters courses as well as specialty expertise in the undergraduate program in human communication.
Assignments within the school, both in terms of subject matter and hours are contingent upon the needs of the School, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Instructional specialist senior positions are as needed appointments. Specific start date within the 2024-25 Academic Year will vary based on enrollment. By policy, the successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States by time of hire.

Essential Duties
- Provides high quality feedback for students enrolled in online programs within the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication including Masters and undergraduate courses.
- Ability to prioritize projects based on need, ability to work under tight deadlines. Provides timely feedback to professional faculty members regarding student questions or concerns.
- Communicates professionally with instructional team members and with online learners in an asynchronous platform.
- Knowledge of educational principles, practices, and procedures.
- Knowledge of online learning best practices.
- Knowledge of human communication curriculum.
- Ability to provide high quality feedback at scale.
- Ability to maintain professionalism in both verbal and written communication.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two years of instructional or subject work experience; OR, Six years of progressively responsible instructional or subject work experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Evidence of a Master’s degree in human communication (not mass media) by time of appointment.
- Experience in teaching in human communication courses at the university level.
- Experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods, statistics for social scientists, and/or organizational communication theory and praxis.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse students, faculty and staff populations and communities.
Working Environment
- This job is a fully remote position.
- Sitting may be required for long periods of time.
- Occasional attendance at synchronous online meetings may be requested and compensated.
