The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure track Instructors in Psychology, Communication, Social Justice and Human Rights, Sociology, Political Science, and other related disciplines, for a hiring pool. The successful candidate may teach 10 courses per year (5-5). This position may teach in-person, online, or a hybrid schedule. Instructors are pedagogical specialists who bear the primary responsibility for their assigned courses.

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences offers 15 majors, five graduate programs, six certificates, and 11 minors. Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Teach classes in relevant areas, such as Psychology, Communication, Social Justice and Human Rights, Sociology, Political Science, and other related disciplines as needed
  • Prepare syllabi
  • Set appropriate course goals, objectives, and lesson plans
  • Evaluate and select course materials
  • Prepare, administer, and grade assignments
  • Administer exams
  • Hold regular office hours

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Communication, Political Science, Psychology, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Social Justice and Human Rights, Sociocultural Anthropology, or Sociology, or a related field, by time of appointment

Desired Qualifications:

  • An earned Doctoral or terminal degree in a social science discipline or related field
  • Experience teaching a variety of undergraduate and/or graduate courses in a social/behavioral science discipline
  • Experience or scholarly expertise in the subject matter of the specific courses needed
  • Experience with online instruction
  • Demonstrated excellence in face-to-face and/or online teaching
  • A record of successful teaching of undergraduate courses related to the course subject at the college or university level by time of appointment
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including first-generation college students
