Description

The School of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies seeks part-time, non-tenure track faculty associates to teach NEW 101, The New College Experience (this is a 1 credit course). Faculty Associate positions are one semester, non-benefits-eligible, fixed-term appointments with no tenure implications, not to exceed an average of .40 FTE per semester. The number of courses is contingent upon unit needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Salary is based on qualifications and assigned teaching load.

Faculty in SHArCS contribute to the master’s programs in Interdisciplinary Studies; Social Justice and Human Rights; and English. Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Teach NEW 101 The New College Experience to first-year undergraduate students in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, in face-to-face, hybrid, or online formats.
  • Faculty Associates are required to prepare a syllabus, lectures, class materials, exams, and grade assignments and exams.
  • Faculty Associates who teach face-to-face, hybrid, or iCourses, courses taught to campus-based students, are required to hold in-person office hours on ASU’s West Valley campus by appointment.
  • Faculty Associates who are hired to teach oCourses, courses taught to students in ASU Online degree programs, are required to hold office hours online.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, at time of appointment.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including first-generation college students.
  • Knowledge of ASU.
  • Knowledge of Canvas Learning Management system or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching first-year and/or at-risk college students.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Evidence of teaching or one year of experience in student support services at a post-secondary institution.
  • Evidence of excellent teaching/student support ability.
  • Excellent English written and spoken communication skills.
