The Design School at Arizona State University seeks multiple faculty at the Instructor and Assistant Teaching Professor ranks to serve in-person and online programs in Architecture, Environmental Design, Graphic Design and Industrial Design. Faculty may teach for both in-person and online degrees and may serve multiple disciplinary programs depending on areas of expertise. Instructor and Assistant Teaching Professors are year-to-year faculty appointments that are renewed annually depending on the needs of the programs. Positions begin August 15, 2024 and will be located on the Tempe Campus.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must possess:

  • For Assistant Teaching Professors, a terminal degree (MArch, MLA, MFA, MDes, Ph.D,or equivalent) in one of the design disciplines or a related discipline, and two years of professional design experience. For Instructors, a graduate degree in one of the design disciplines or a related discipline and three years of professional experience, or a degree in a design or related discipline and seven years of professional design experience. International applicants must have a graduate degree. Degree must be completed by start of the appointment.
  • One year of experience teaching in a design discipline or related field;
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching.

Desired Qualifications:

Preference will be given to individuals with:

  • Five years of experience teaching in one or more of The Design School disciplines at the university level;
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct in multiple modalities, including online, in-person and hybrid, to both undergraduate and graduate audiences;
  • Demonstrated expertise in current or emergent design practices such as visual sensemaking, user experience design, service design, speculative design, online design education, participatory design, design history, design ethics, virtual reality, design of artificial intelligence, design for behavior change, inclusive design, design justice, design for sustainability, design for health, community-engaged design, and design management;
  • Commitment to exploring the current and future roles of design in environmentally and socially responsible design practices;
  • A record of publication, presentation, creative practice, or research that is related to and can enhance the mission of The Design School.

Application Deadline:

The application deadline is April 4, 2024. Applications will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis for a reserve pool. Applications in the reserve pool may then be reviewed in the order in which they were received until the position is filled.
