The Biodesign Institute's Center for Personalized Diagnostics is seeking a Research Specialist with an immunoassay background to work on a state-of-the-art proteomics platform.

Essential Duties
- Perform basic laboratory equipment and prepare biological buffers, solutions and reagents following standard laboratory procedures
- Perform general molecular biology tasks such as cloning, DNA prep, and PCR
- Perform immunoassays, such as western and ELISA
- Perform mammalian cell culture
- Process samples with a liquid handling system
- Perform protein expression and purification
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two years related research experience; OR, Six years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline.
- Demonstrated knowledge of modern research methods, data collection and analysis and skill in their application.
- Evidence of effective communication.
- Experience in analyzing and evaluating data.
- Experience in report writing.
Working Environment
- Regular activities require ability to manage multiple tasks at one time, to be able to prioritize tasks; to manage conflict: to interact in a team environment: and to communicate effectively to exchange accurate information.
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting and laboratory subject to extended periods of being in a stationary position, operating computer and other office productivity machinery; required to move a moderate distance to perform work.
- Frequently moves up to 25 pounds for various needs.
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
- Ability to clearly communicate and exchange accurate information to perform essential duties.
- May be required to wear personal protective equipment before entering laboratories such as lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, closed toe shoes and respirator.
- May be in contact with potentially hazardous agents or physical hazards, such as biologicals, chemicals, radioactive materials or lasers?

The Biodesign Center for Personalized Diagnostics is a research center within the Biodesign Institute that focuses on personalized medicine. Promising advances in the area of personalized medicine have shown us that life-threatening diseases are as distinct in character as the individuals they afflict. The Virginia G. Piper Center for Personalized Diagnostics has been established with an eye toward overcoming the health care challenges posed by disease variance. Our Center is developing new diagnostic tools to pinpoint the molecular manifestations of disease based on individual patient profiles. The strategy promises not only to improve therapeutic care, but also to greatly reduce treatment costs by allowing for early disease detection.
