Job Description

The Communications Engagement Program Manager is a position within University Sustainability Practices, initiated to promote engagement of ASU community members in personal and collaborative action to advance sustainability on Arizona State Universities four main campuses and additional properties. The ideal candidate will have experience in marketing, communications, social media, graphic design and content creation with knowledge in the fundamentals of sustainability and behavioral psychology. The successful candidate will work closely with the USP and Business and Finance Communicators team to create materials and content that messages ASU's successful sustainability accomplishments, programs, initiatives and strategic sustainability goals. Oversight and development of sustainability engagement programs is another aspect of this role to include the Green Game, Sustainable Recognition Program and student and staff orientation.

Essential Duties

  • Oversees the development, management, and programming of strategic sustainability messaging and departmental communication.
  • Support internal departmental communication analytics through data collection, analysis and outreach.
  • Create written communications and presentations for, and present to, students, faculty, staff, senior executives, donors and the public.
  • Work with communications and engagement teams to create awareness and adoption of sustainability solutions and behavior.
  • Represents USP and acts as a liaison with the community, students, faculty, and staff as needed. Develops and monitors daily operations and coordinates program/project activities to advance achievement of ASU sustainability goals and metrics.
  • Support and serve as liaison to partners to advance staff, faculty and student engagement around sustainability.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and external strategic partners to develop sustainability solutions that support the nuances of reaching a large student body and campus size.
  • Project manage assigned engagement programs and support engagement events as needed.
  • Oversees and manages staff positions and student positions as assigned. Managing goal attainment and messaging for USP sustainability engagement internally and external.
  • Expertise with Microsoft 365, Photoshop, Creative Cloud, Canva, Google Docs., etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field AND five years administrative/coordination experience; OR, Master's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND three years administrative/coordination experience; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with content development and storytelling.
  • Experience with video content development – writing, story blocking and character formation.
  • Experience in Newsletter writing, web edits, social media content and annual reports.
  • Experience in graphic design, photography and brand identity skillset – produce flyers / reports.
  • Experience with management of multiple projects management simultaneously.
  • Skill set to include evaluation of messaging success, critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated concepts of basic sustainability terms, definitions and sectors.
  • Evidence in team work mentality to effectively partner with other units to provide excellent service.
  • Experience in basic behavioral psychology as it relates behaviors change with sustainability.
  • Experience in event and program development and execution.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.

Working Environment

  • Activities are primarily performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Some work involves travel between offices or campuses for meetings and occasional participation in outdoor or off-campus events in compliance with Community of Care standards.
  • Occasional out-of-state or in-state travel.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities that may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
