Job Description

The Program Coordinator performs a variety of duties related to the support of the Academic Support Network’s (ASN) Writing Center and Graduate Writing Center and works from the West Valley campus. This position works collaboratively with a cross-campus workgroup and campus-specific team to provide direct supervision to assigned student staff, including but not limited to hiring, training, evaluating, and managing schedules. This position will assist in the creation and delivery of training content for ASN’s student staff. This position is also responsible for assisting in the deployment of ASN’s 24/7 learning support model. This position will support student staff involvement in ASN's 24/7 platform. This position will work with assigned staff to provide support for the adoption of ASN’s 24/7 model. This position participates in Work+ training for professional staff, mentors ASN’s working learners in Work+, and assists in the evaluation of ASN’s working learners according to Work+ guidelines. The Program Coordinator will be under the direct supervision of the ASN Program Manager for the Writing Center and Graduate Writing Center. Essential Duties

  • ​​​​​​Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, and evaluating assigned staff, which may include student and professional staff
  • Work collaboratively in a campus-specific team to provide support for the unit’s delivery of all services
  • Work in a shared supervision model to manage the supervision and day-to-day functions of the Writing Center and Graduate Writing Center Programs, which includes but is not limited to:
    • Training new and current student staff
    • Creating and managing student staff schedules
    • Evaluating student staff performance and providing feedback
    • Helping to resolve issues amongst student staff and/or users
    • Assisting with the scheduling and presentation of student employee training, meetings, and workshops
    • Supporting University College’s Work+ by engaging in all aspects of the designed program including, but not limited to, mentorship, reflective practices, professional development and evaluation of working learners, and use of digital portfolios
    • Monitoring and assessing staff through one-on-one meetings and providing staff with direction and strategies on how to become more effective in their position
  • Design and facilitate workshops for faculty, staff, and student audiences
  • Help student staff develop materials for ASN’s 24/7 academic support model
  • Participate in the design process to design services to support learners at scale using design thinking, analytics, automation, and intelligent systems.
  • Contribute to University College initiatives to improve employee engagement in the design of work, workplace, tools, and processes such that we improve the quality of the employee experience and satisfaction with their work.
  • Ensure the success of ASN’s 24/7 academic support model by monitoring student staff participation, providing ongoing feedback, and marketing resources to the ASU community.
  • Assist with the coordination and presentation of bi-weekly staff meetings and training workshops.
  • Assist with coordinating marketing events to promote services
  • Serve on department committee and represent ASU and ASN at events as needed
  • Respond to student questions and concerns
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND two years administrative/coordinator program experience; OR, Six years of progressively responsible administrative/coordinator program experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a degree in English or any other degree program relevant to the area of responsibilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of writing center theory and pedagogy
  • Experience working with different genres of writing
  • Experience collaborating with faculty, staff, and/or community members
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theories of English Language Learning/Second Language Writing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of writing principles
  • Experience developing and giving presentations
  • Experience tutoring or teaching
  • Experience using technology such as Canvas, Zoom, Slack, Tutortrac, Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and/or other web applications
  • Supervisory experience
  • Evidence of effective communication skills
  • Experience working collaboratively on a team

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse;
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to the resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
