Job Description

Under general direction, conducts studies, performs advanced analyses and constructs models in support of ASUs enrollment management, student success, financial aid, academic and strategic planning efforts. Works collaboratively with peers to provide assistance, guidance and recommendation based on expertise.

Essential Duties

  • Designs and develops statistical models that support enrollment, academic, and planning efforts and decision-making.
  • Coordinates compilation of data for special management, policy studies, and/or research activities.
  • Analyzes and interprets quantitative and qualitative data; reviews and validates results with team members to ensure accuracy; may review work of others as appropriate.
  • Maintains and develops data files for use in special studies.
  • Compares data from a variety of internal and external sources to ensure accuracy by applying judgment, data validation techniques and knowledge of applicable subject material(s).
  • Selects, and/or recommends appropriate research design methodologies, data analyses, and statistical procedures; may determine appropriate methodology to be used for particular project(s).
  • Prepares a variety of statistical and written reports and presentations utilizing multiple and varied ASU data as well as external data sources.
  • Communicates with internal and external constituencies to obtain necessary information.
  • Prepares drafts of technical reports and presentations for review; incorporates suggestions to write and prepare final versions.
  • Utilizes a variety of statistical computer programs and software to perform data computation and statistical analysis of critical and/or key metrics; may evaluate and recommend software programs
  • based on project requirements.
  • Explains analyses, plans, or analytical reports to senior administrators and stakeholders; ascertains senior leadership requirements for further data or analysis.
  • Manages projects and serves on committees as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three (3) years of experience in conducting research, statistical analyses or planning; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with leading evaluation, institutional research, and data analysis projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of predictive analytics and statistical modeling principles, methods and practices; experience with STATA or R.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relational and multi-dimensional databases, spreadsheet, statistical, and presentation software packages.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles, methods and practices of university governance, reporting, institutional assessment, enrollment management and planning.
  • Experience in conceiving and developing forecast and tracking models that integrate disparate information.
  • Experience in analyzing complex data/problems.
  • Evidence of effective communication to include graphic presentation of complex data.
  • Experience in interpersonal relations and project leadership.
  • Experience in working effectively in an environment subject to quickly changing and potentially conflicting priorities.
  • Experience in identifying appropriate data sources, extract and manipulate data from multiple and diverse database sources by designing, refining and running complex data queries.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of exemplary customer service demonstrated through actively listening, acknowledging, and responding to every inquiry; taking ownership and resolving each concern or problem as appropriate; exhibiting professionalism and expertise in every interaction and engaging in professional development to meet expectations for service excellence.
  • Experience in stimulating changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment.
  • Experiene in leading by example in communicating, participating and encouraging support of the institutions sustainability programs.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
