Job Description

ASU’s Enterprise Technology (ET) is looking for a highly motivated Department HR Specialist Senior to join the People Operations team to coordinate human resource functions. You will be part of a highly efficient team that works collaboratively while allowing room for individual accomplishments. The Department HR Specialist Senior will manage the employee life cycle, including recruitment, onboarding, employee professional development, staffing, compliance and internal controls, management of unit personnel files, payroll management, and other functions designated by the Department HR Manager.

Essential Duties

  • Works closely with ET administration and the ASU Office of Human Resources (OHR) to develop and implement all departmental human resource activities to ensure compliance with ET and university policies, practices, and regulations
  • Coordinates and manages personnel searches, applicant evaluation and hiring, with an explicit focus on ensuring inclusion and belonging for all members of the ET team
  • Coordinates and processes personnel changes.
  • Manages human resource and payroll quality control for the department
  • Responsible for payroll management, resolves payroll discrepancies, and works as a liaison between Financial Services Payroll and OHR to reach a solution
  • Determines budgetary impact of salary actions and works closely with the financial team to review account expenditure requests and obtain expenditure approvals complying with established financial guidelines and policies
  • Assists with department staff visa applications and renewal processes
  • Responds to customer inquiries regarding policies, processes or general ASU/ET human resource information.
  • Ensures maintenance of appropriate personnel records based on OHR, state, and federal guidelines
  • Participates in a variety of departmental, ET, and university-wide initiatives and meetings to represent ET's interests in the area of human resources and to ensure integrative/collaborative support of ET and university interests
  • Performs other responsibilities as assigned to ensure the continuity of department operations and to meet customer service needs
  • Takes responsibility for fostering culture, advancing our values, and championing engagement in all its forms -- collaborating across our teams as well as participating in ET/ASU events and programs

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND five (5) years of related administrative experience, OR, Nine (9) years of related administrative experience, OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and regulatory requirements, laws, and standards
  • Experience with Workday HCM system
  • Experience using Salesforce, or similar software, to track and manage customer requests
  • Evidence of a SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification preferred
  • Experience in using judgment on sensitive, complex, and cross-functional issues
  • Demonstrated knowledge of design process and program improvements to address business needs, improve efficiency and customer satisfaction, and rollout service changes
  • Experience in planning and establishing priorities
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships both within and across organizational areas
  • Evidence of effective communication
  • Experience in working effectively in an environment subject to quickly changing priorities, sensitive/confidential information, and short deadlines
  • Experience modeling empathy, compassion, and emotional intelligence
  • Experience hiring in a values-led organization, emphasizing inclusion and belonging
  • Ability to help foster a collaborative and welcoming space for all teammates where everyone can thrive

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (75%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (10%)
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds (15%)
  • Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities and adapt to swiftly changing requirement, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
