Job Description

Educational Outreach - Access ASU is hiring a Program Manager for First Star ASU.
First Star ASU is a free, comprehensive four-year college access program that aims to provide foster youth the academic support, enrichment, and resources needed to enroll and succeed in college.
The Program Manager will perform work of considerable difficulty and independence in strategizing, administering, and coordinating outreach, programs and services, in support of serving foster youth. The ideal candidate must work well in a fast-paced, flexible environment, provide a high level of customer service to both the university and external communities, and make strong contributions both as an individual and as a team player. This position requires evidence of effective time management skills and success in being accountable for specific outcomes.
First Star ASU programming includes a monthly Saturday Academy and summer residential program.

Essential Duties

  • Act as a primary liaison with internal and external partners to identify and engage in appropriate connections and partnerships between foster youth serving organizations, local high schools, and within Access programming, university departments and colleges, working toward mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Serve as an advocate and liaison for students participating in the First Star Academy, prospective students, families and caretakers, community organizations and ASU internal partners.
  • Assist with marketing and recruitment efforts targeted growing the number of foster youth graduating from high school and transitioning to a post-secondary pathway.
  • Generate necessary reports documenting, monitoring progress towards program goals, and tracking for ensuring all aspects of function/program are implemented and controlled according to plan.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team to support Access ASU programs and goals.
  • Support all Access ASU programs and initiatives focused on schools, families, and students.
  • As part of a team, provide supervision and leadership to assigned professional and student staff to maximize impact for those served.
  • Develop and deliver college readiness content, including leading presentations.
  • Confer with and advise staff, students, families, and others to answer questions, provide problem solving assistance and excellent Sun Devil Service; refer to appropriate department or person when unable to respond.
  • Demonstrate relentless commitment to customer service (external and internal), teamwork, and an outcomes-oriented model.
  • Serve on various committees, boards, and teams in support of Access ASU goals.
  • Travel to off-campus meetings and events regularly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

DAYS AND SCHEDULE:
Work schedule will be flexible, depending on when programs are offered, to include nights and Saturdays as required. On days when programs are not offered, work schedule will be Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
This position is an in-person position.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field AND five years administrative/coordination experience; OR, Master's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND three years administrative/coordination experience; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Master's degree.
  • Experience working with foster youth.
  • Experience working with diverse K-12 student population (including first generation and underserved)
  • Experience in managing and supervising assigned staff.
  • Experience working with K-12 school and/or higher education systems.
  • Experience recruiting for outreach and/or college readiness programs.
  • Experience developing and/or implementing college readiness programs.
  • Experience collecting and using data to inform decisions.
  • Experience in speaking, writing, and reading in Spanish/English (bilingual).
  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and prioritizing workload.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office applications

Working Environment

  • Work location is primarily at ASU Tempe location; however, incumbent will regularly be required to travel to off-campus events, other ASU campuses and partner organizations and schools to perform work.

  • Research, develop, implement, and assess programs.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing to perform essential duties.

  • Sit or stand for duration of shift, climb stairs, or walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Travel to different campuses and off-campus events.
