Job Description
This role is an excellent opportunity to lead the marketing and communications efforts for The Sustainability Consortium (TSC), a global organization driving sustainability in the consumer goods industry. As the Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications, you'll spearhead strategic campaigns, manage high-profile events, and oversee membership growth initiatives. You'll work closely with major retailers, brands, and manufacturers to showcase the value of TSC's tools and programs, including THESIS (The Sustainability Insight System).
As the Assistant Director, Marketing and Communications, you'll develop and implement comprehensive marketing strategies that align with TSC's mission and goals. Key responsibilities include managing TSC's brand across all channels, leading virtual and in-person events such as the TSC Summit, and creating targeted campaigns to drive membership growth and highlight the benefits of the THESIS program.
Working in collaboration with the Director of Development and other team members, you will be the main point of contact for marketing and communications initiatives, engaging with diverse stakeholders to connect TSC's sustainability science to business practices and drive positive impact at scale.
TSC is a consortium of companies, NGOs, and universities that supports the consumer goods industry in delivering more sustainable products. Through TSC's tools and programs, including THESIS, the organization helps companies identify, prioritize, and address sustainability impacts in their supply chains. Essential Duties
Strategic Marketing and Communications (30%)
- Lead overall marketing and communications strategy
- Oversee brand management across all channels
- Develop and implement creative campaigns
- Manage media relations and reporter requests
- Lead TSC-led events (in-person and virtual), including TSC Summit and Sustainability Leadership Institute Retreat
- Coordinate partner-led events and conference strategies
- Develop and implement marketing strategies for membership growth
- Create campaigns to highlight member benefits and THESIS program value
- Collaborate with the Development team on membership retention initiatives
- Oversee production of membership materials and THESIS program collateral
- Supervise marketing and communications team
- Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Represent TSC on university committees and in the community
- Create high-level reports and materials for board meetings and donors
- Support communication strategies for stakeholders and potential funders
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND six (6) years of related administrative experience, which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Ten (10) years of related administrative experience, which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Evidence of bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field; Master's preferred
- 7+ years of experience in marketing and communications, including team management
- Effective strategic thinking and planning skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience with event planning and execution

Flexible work options:
- Alternative work schedules can include four, 10-hour workdays in a workweek; a nine-day, 80-hour schedule over two workweeks for exempt employees only; and staggered start and stop times.
- Hybrid work is an arrangement where employees spend a minimum of 60% of their regular workweek at their primary ASU work location. Dean or vice president-level approval is required.
- Remote work is an arrangement where the employee spends less than 60% of their regular workweek at a regularly assigned ASU work location. Executive vice president-level approval is required.
