The Arizona State University Knowledge Enterprise Biodesign Institute is actively seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and organized individual for our Research Advancement Administrator Sr. role on the Biodesign Research Opportunity Advancement and Development (ROAD) team on the Tempe campus.

ROAD provides administrative support to Biodesign researchers in preparing proposals and contracts for research funding from government, foundation and industry sponsors. ROAD is an energetic group focused on providing quality service, empowering team members, and encouraging professional development.

The proposals that ROAD assists with involve delivering the future of nature-inspired scientific innovation today for the betterment of human health, community safety, and global sustainability. As an RAA Sr., you will hone your knowledge and skills towards submitting proposal applications to National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), and Department of Defense (DOD), among other federal agencies, while also gaining experience with a wide variety of philanthropic funders and other sponsor agencies.

In this position, you will provide direct support to research investigators in the area of proposal preparation. You will assist investigators with adhering to sponsor guidelines and university policies, all while fostering a supportive and uplifting environment. This position will serve as a resource/mentor for junior members of the team. For many proposals, you will work with individual researchers to develop proposal materials, including complex budgets. Additionally, you will support interdisciplinary proposals which involve teams of investigators, proposal managers, and subcontractor institutions. Prior experience in proposal development, administration and/or project management are essential to success.

Essential Duties

  • Performing funding searches to help identify opportunities
  • Reviewing funding announcements and providing guidance on eligibility and sponsor requirements
  • Contacting sponsors for clarification of application guidelines
  • Drafting budget justifications in conjunction with PI/Unit
  • Assisting subrecipients with questions related to completing subrecipient commitment forms
  • Preparing complex budgets
  • Assisting and completing other sponsor required forms and review for compliance (current and pending support, biosketches)
  • Completing administrative information according to sponsor guidelines
  • Completing and routing all internal forms using information provided by PI/Unit
  • Verifying cost sharing required by sponsor
  • Uploading files for sponsors requiring electronic submission
  • Reviewing proposals against guidelines before sending to the Office of Research and Sponsored Project Administration
  • Submitting applications to Office of Research and Sponsored Project Administration for review, signature, and transmittal to sponsor
  • Assisting with post submission action items requested by the sponsor such as Just-in-Time requests, revised budgets, scope of work, additional certifications, etc.
  • Acting as administrative resource to ASU research investigators, providing assistance, guidance and counsel during development, pre-submission administrative review, management, authorization and transmittal of grant and contract proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies to verify and ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable regulatory and financial compliance requirements
  • In conjunction with and in support of ORSPA, providing assistance and support, securing additional information during negotiations as necessary; reads award documents to determine restrictions and other pertinent information.
  • Assisting ASU research investigators with renewals and periodic progress reports for grant agencies
  • Preparing standard and nonstandard administrative reports on submission data
  • Acting as administrative resource to ASU research investigators and ORSPA staff to resolve problems and correct errors in proposal data

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field. Five years of experience in a field appropriate to the area/unit of assignment OR Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been achieved.
