Job Description

As the ASU Local Enrollment and Success Coach for Downtown Washington, DC, you will lead a cohort of students through their university journey from day one to graduation. Your mission is to guide them to academic success and timely graduation, while also supporting their journey through college and life. This role is multifaceted: you will mentor students in navigating admissions, academic challenges, social integration, career development, and self-care. As a builder of community, you'll create a network of trust, collaboration and empathy among your students. Additionally, you'll collaborate with the ASU Local team to recruit and welcome new students, enhancing the program's reach and impact.

During your tenure, you will become a leading expert in the development, design and delivery of an innovative college model that puts students at the center of the experience. Essential Duties

Your day-to-day as an ASU Local Enrollment and Student Success Coach will include:

  1. Facilitate and design engaging cohort-based student experiences for college, career and life skills. You will lead weekly sections with your cohort, facilitating discussions as well as incorporating project-based learning. By preparing engaging workshops and program activities, you will ensure that students are retained at 95%, year-over-year. You will engage deeply in cohort based signature best practices. You will collaborate with other ASU Local staff in creating scalable student support systems for all of the ASU Local campuses. On days when you are not directly leading group student sessions, you will prepare to lead them or do other programmatic activities such as event planning. As an ASU Local Enrollment and Success coach, you ensure that students are provided with a holistic education ready to take on college, career and post-graduation life aligned to meet the needs of the 21st century.
  2. Support personalized student success journeys. You will check in regularly (2x per week)) one-on-one with each of your students motivating and supporting them through their college and career and life journey. You will work closely with the Site Director to track learners’ academic progress on a regular basis helping to unblock any impediments to their success. This includes providing student support on some evenings and weekends. With the support of the DC Site Director you will assist each student in identifying and exploring all their academic options, including degrees, extracurricular activities, study abroad program(s), research, and internships. In addition, you will work with the DC Site Director to identify students who require additional ASU services including but not limited to academic tutoring, mental health, financial aid, and other support. You will refer them to the appropriate provider, and follow up with students daily to ensure that they are receiving the help they need. You will support your colleagues in leveraging their relationships with professionals in the community and across industries with the goal of creating a strong career network and hands-on career aligned opportunities for students.
  3. Build a cohort of ASU Local students. You will serve as an outreach and enrollment coach where you will build and leverage your relationships in the community to quickly gain the trust of partners, educators, internal colleagues as well as learners and families. Working closely with other ASU Local colleagues you will plan outreach events, facilitate workshops, recruitment events, campus tours, and presentations. You will be supporting both the student and their family through the college admissions process while representing ASU in the broader community.
  4. Leverage your personal strengths to codify and continuously improve the ASU Local experience. Utilizing your experience and expertise you will be a lead or be part of group projects related to the codification and continuous development of the ASU Local model. In this capacity you will improve the toolkit and skills needed to deliver the ASU Local model effectively, at times this may include career focused projects, supervision of student leaders or other projects as the program scales. This is broad and varied based on the needs of the overarching ASU Local program and specific site needs.

This is an in-person, non-hybrid job.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related field and three (3) years or more of advising or related student services experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Master’s degree is preferred, however, relevant work experience is highly valued. You have earned a bachelor’s degree. Ideally, you will have a master's of education or equivalent.
  • Experience in instructing, coaching, or mentoring students (3+ years).
  • Experience working with first-generation students and a diverse student population.
  • Evidence of how you have outperformed benchmarks in the areas of increased persistence, engagement, and goal attainment for young adults.
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish preferred.
  • Evidence of having designed learning experiences and curriculum with a specific focus on engaged learning & hands-on programming for small & large groups of students. This may include experiential learning, deeper learning, and place-based learning.
  • Experience with recruiting and/ or enrolling in higher education setting
  • Experience with student Case Management

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • May be required to perform tasks in the field within and/or across University campuses.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
