We’re seeking a highly motivated, people‐oriented Sr. Data Analyst to support Action Lab. Action Lab
combines the power of data and research to evaluate and inform business decisions to create innovative
solutions. Under the general guidance of Action Lab Leadership, the Sr. Data Analyst will support
Edplus’s overall data needs.
This is a hybrid role. The incumbent of this position will be required to work from our office located in
Scottsdale, Arizona three days per week (ideally in office on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and one other day
that aligns with other work activities).
Essential Duties:
- Makes recommendations for enhancements to current procedures, including assessments of the effort involved, alternatives, and implications.
- Translate business, research needs, and questions into quantifiable metrics to create dashboards, reports, and other technical solutions
- Periodically review configuration for enhancement opportunities; reviews needs and provides ongoing support of data requirements through understanding of system data and metadata content for production of reports and associate analysis.
- Evaluate the impact of implementing new enhancements and make recommendations regarding the timing and implications of moving forward; identifies key data elements, tables, fields and properties affected to ensure ongoing data integrity.
- Reviews, updates, and implements system administration procedures including, but not limited to: data validation, duplicate resolution, system change requests and system integration/user acceptance testing to ensure ongoing integrity and security of data consistent with university policies and procedures.
- Identify appropriate data sources to address stakeholder needs
- Query, transform, and clean complex data; join data accurately across multiple data streams
- Acquire, clearly define and interpret datasets from an enterprise data warehouse environment
- Use quantitative skills to create informative reports and well‐designed, useful data visualizations
- Work iteratively on data solutions with an eye toward enhancing the accuracy of analytics and better-addressing stakeholder needs
- Communicate business data in clear and concise ways to stakeholders in reports and dashboards
- Instruct business users on how to understand and use data to make actionable and informed business decisions
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses, analyzes, and resolves technical issues to ensure ongoing data integrity
- Identify gaps in existing data and work with data engineers to find solutions
- Maintain and improve existing documentation across business data needs, broadly including data dictionaries, data processes, and data storage
- Work internally with teams on the maintenance, testing, and implementation of data systems that are being leveraged across units within EdPlus
- Assume or coordinate other duties or projects as assigned or directed
Bachelors degree in Business, Information Technology or closely related field AND six years prior
relevant experience in a large, multi‐user data environment including responsibility for development of
customized queries and reports OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, and/or education from
which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications:
- Evidence of an advanced degree in Business Analytics, IT, or related field
- Experience working in a higher education setting, preferably with higher education student data
- Experience with Alteryx, evidence of certification is a plus
- Advanced SQL skills including CTEs, window functions, and complex joins as well as basic ETL functions
- Ability to develop and execute queries and reports within a database including Redshift, Postgres, or related
- Ability to proficiently manipulate, report and analyze enterprise data
- Advanced data visualization skills in Tableau, Looker, Power BI or related
- Proficient with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook as well as the corresponding Google Suite tools including docs, sheets, and slides
- Ability to work effectively in an environment requiring balancing multiple competing deadlines and priorities
- Skill managing small to medium sized projects
- Experience with Jira or related project management tools
- Skill in thinking critically and developing creative solutions to challenging problems
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, including clearly explaining complex technical processes
- Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with a variety of individuals
- Ability to stimulate changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment

Working Environment
Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting or standing. Daily use of desktop or laptop computer is required. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.
