Job Description
The Neurodegenerative Research Center at the ASU Biodesign Institute is seeking a dedicated and skilled Laboratory Technician to join our dynamic team. Our research focuses on understanding the mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases, with the ultimate goal of developing effective treatments. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in cell culture, PCR, histology, and various immunoblotting techniques. While we provide training, applicants must bring a solid foundation in these areas to contribute effectively from the start.

Essential Duties
- Perform and maintain cell cultures, ensuring optimal growth conditions and contamination-free environments.
- Conduct polymerase chain reaction (PCR) experiments to amplify DNA samples for various research projects.
- Carry out histological procedures, including tissue processing, sectioning, staining, and microscopic analysis.
- Execute immunoblotting techniques such as Western blotting to detect and analyze specific proteins in biological samples.
- Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records of experiments and results.
- Assist in the preparation of reagents, solutions, and other laboratory materials.
- Follow established protocols and contribute to the development and optimization of new experimental procedures.
- Collaborate with researchers and other lab personnel to support ongoing projects and experiments.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements in the laboratory.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two years related research experience; OR, Six years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Evidence of a Bachelor’s degree in biology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, or a related field.
- Experience in cell culture, PCR, histology, and immunoblotting techniques.
- Experience in using attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
- Evidence of effective communication skills.
- Familiarity with neurodegenerative disease research is a plus but not required.
