We are on the lookout for a passionate Research Specialist to play a pivotal role in our cutting-edge studies. This position offers a unique opportunity to assist with data collection and management, while also contributing significantly to various research endeavors, including an NIH-funded project that tests the effects of combining mindfulness meditation with an open-label placebo intervention. Essential Duties
The Specialist’s primary responsibilities will encompass:
- Screening, recruiting, and enrolling participants.
- Administering informed consent, conducting self-report surveys, and facilitating clinical interviews.
- Performing cognitive and quantitative sensory testing.
- Providing training to participants for ambulatory/smartphone assessment.
- Organizing a remotely delivered group-based mindfulness intervention.
- Maintaining comprehensive records of conducted studies, organizing data for computer input, and recording computer output.
- Conducting data cleaning and routine data analysis procedures.
- Training students in equipment operation and technical procedures.
- Supporting participant retention efforts, assisting in the development of project materials, reports, and publications.
- Conducting participant home visits for sample collection when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two years related research experience; OR, Six years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Willing to commit to the position for 2 years or more.
- Evidence of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Nursing, Biology, Neuroscience, Social Work, Health and Physical Education or related field.
- Competency in using data management programs (i.e., REDCap) and statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS) is highly desirable.
- Experience in working with clinical population, such as individuals with chronic illness (e.g., chronic pain, cancer, etc.)
- Knowledge of research methods, data collection and analyses.
- Demonstrated knowledge of good laboratory practices and operation.
- Evidence of effective communication

- Communicate orally and in writing
- Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze and report data/results of tests conducted
- Conduct lab tests using appropriate equipment and protocols
- Deliver presentations to a variety of audiences
- Handle petty cash
- Initiate confidential correspondence on behalf of the project
- Conduct interviews over the phone or in person
- Schedule appointments and maintain calendar for project
- May supervise staff and/or students
- Works under supervision
