Description
For this position we seek a dynamic and experienced educator who specializes in American Politics, broadly defined. The ideal candidate is passionate about teaching, mentorship, and student engagement. The candidate is expected to work effectively within a collaborative, dynamic, and innovative environment that is committed to student success. This position is an in-person, academic year, benefits-eligible appointment. The anticipated start date is August 2025.
Job Duties:
- Teach a range of undergraduate courses in American Politics and a related subfield such as Politics and Media, Women and Politics, Political Parties, and Judicial Politics
- Develop and implement engaging course materials and innovative teaching strategies in both online and immersion settings
- Supervise and mentor immersion and online students participating in political internships primarily within Arizona and Washington DC, and in other states
- Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the school’s curriculum and develop additional experiential learning opportunities, such as programs for first-year, online, or transfer students
- Provide pedagogical and logistical support to Faculty Associates
- Participate in school-related service, including committee work and/or community outreach efforts
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
By the time of appointment, candidates must:
- An earned Ph.D. by time of appointment in Political Science with a concentration in American Politics or a closely related field from a regionally-accredited university
- Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students from varied backgrounds
Desired Qualifications:
- An earned doctoral degree from a regionally-accredited institution by the time of appointment
- Several years of teaching experience at four-year colleges or universities
- Demonstrated experience in coordinating internships and/or experiential learning programs
- Evidence of activities consistent with the ASU Charter and Design Aspirations
- Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students and communities to advance the principles of the ASU Charter
This position is located at Arizona State University at the Tempe campus.
