Job Description

Under supervision of the Associate Director of Student Experience, the MENA Region Student Services Coordinator will assist in developing and implementing campus academic success initiatives and internationalization programs for international students from the MENA region that are administered by the International Students and Scholars Center. Will also serve as a student club adviser and Designated School Official.

Essential Duties

  • Generate regular reports for ISSC team about MENA student engagement and activities
  • Develops and coordinates events and programs to meet the academic, career, social and cultural needs of new and returning MENA international students
  • Manages communications through email and other channels with current students from the MENA region
  • Increases MENA student awareness of and engagement in programming and resources provided by the ISSC and other offices at ASU
  • Advocates for individual students in need of assistance from the International Students and Scholars Center
  • Supports retention of first year international students from the MENA region
  • Serve as club adviser for international student groups from the MENA region
  • Facilitate programs and services for the adjustment and integration of international students into the campus community
  • Supports and collaborates with the rest of the ISSC Programming team on projects and programs as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three (3) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Master's degree in higher education, international education, counseling, or related field.
  • Experience in program budgeting, development, coordination, and evaluation.
  • Experience in cross-cultural communication and programming.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Excel and data sets
  • Knowledge of trends related to campus internationalization and international faculty and scholar recruitment.
  • Language skill, Arabic preferred
  • Evidence of eligibility to work in the US.

Working Environment

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking. Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computers; bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 35 pounds. May require irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.

The International Students and Scholars Center is one of several departments comprising the Division of Enrollment Services which utilizes a variety of strategies to enroll and support a diverse student population representative of Arizona State University’s vision.

The International Students and Scholars Center is comprised of a staff of trained experts, versed in the details and requirements of academic and employment-based programs, who provide visa and immigration advice and support to visiting students and scholars. These services include oversight of visa programs, planning and coordinating orientations for the international students, and assisting with visa and immigration for new students, staff, and scholars.
