Job Description

W. P. Carey School of Business is seeking an energetic, service-oriented, and self-motivated person to work in its Office of Academic Excellence as an Academic Excellence Specialist. The Office of Academic Excellence works to support students and faculty regarding matters related to academic integrity, professionalism and grade appeals.

Under direct supervision of the Academic Excellence Specialist, Sr., the role will provide thorough and impartial investigations into alleged violations of the University’s academic integrity policies. This role involves gathering and analyzing evidence, interviewing involved parties, and preparing detailed reports and recommendations. The Academic Excellence Specialist will work collaboratively with faculty, students, and administration to ensure a fair and transparent process that upholds the highest standards of academic honesty. As a member of the Undergraduate Programs Office, this position will be available for large events and programs such as Fall Welcome, Family Weekend and Convocation. This individual must be successful managing many details, taking initiative, and demonstrating integrity.

DAYS AND SCHEDULE: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; M-F; some evenings and weekends as needed.

Essential Duties

  • Handle academic integrity, professionalism and grade grievance cases including meeting and collaborating with faculty and students involved.
  • Conduct comprehensive investigations, including gathering and analyzing evidence (e.g., written assignments, exam papers, digital submissions).
  • Interview students, faculty, and witnesses to collect pertinent information.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of all investigative activities.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and thorough investigative reports with findings and recommendations.
  • Stay current on national trends and best practices regarding strategies to reduce academic integrity violations and support students in distress.
  • Provides support in areas such as maintaining calendars, scheduling appointments, maintaining record-keeping systems, developing and maintaining databases, and/or spreadsheets.
  • Perform other administrative functions and duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three (3) years of related experience; OR, Seven (7) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty, and students
  • Working knowledge of student information systems to help track and support students in distress

Working Environment

  • Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking.
  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of computer, keyboard, and computer mouse.
  • Bending, stooping, reaching, lifting and pushing objects of varying weights up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions.
  • May include exposure to external environment/climate conditions including walking on uneven surfaces, climbing and high temperatures.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities that may include and/or are subject to the resolution of conflicts.
  • This position requires significant evening and weekend work.
