Job Description
The College of Health Solutions is recruiting an engaged higher education professional to join us as an Academic Success Advisor. This position will provide advisement support for undergraduate students on the Downtown Phoenix campus. This position is a key contributor to promoting and supporting student retention and graduation and will support students in making timely progress toward a degree through a range of in-person and online academic counseling and support strategies. They will work collaboratively with staff, faculty, and units within the College of Health Solutions as well as across the university to provide comprehensive student support. This position will utilize advising strategy/theory and technology-based support tools to further support student success.

Essential Duties
- Academic Success Advisors in the College of Health Solutions provide individual and group academic advising and/or interact with students in support of academic success.
- Works closely and collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff within CHS and across university units to support academic success. This includes our Student Engagement and Retention Team to personalize and customize student support strategies.
- Monitors student academic progress and program effectiveness using a variety of technology-based tools (such as degree progress, customer relationship management, and analytics software/tools), and the application of retention focused strategies, and relevant advising/student development/engagement theories.
- Maintains an openness to new and developing tools utilized across the University to aid in student support and service.
- Able to learn and use multiple systems (such as student record databases, customer relationship management systems, degree progress tools, appointment systems, analytics software/tools).
- Shares feedback and insight regarding technology systems and their daily use.
- Utilizes collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, writing, and by phone; establishes and maintains effective professional working relationships.
- Proactively monitors student academic performance; addresses, responds to, and works to resolve student concerns, questions, or issues; collaborates closely with students to identify all academic options including, but not limited to: degrees, tutoring, counseling, career services, success coaches, extracurricular activities, study abroad program(s), research, and internships; supports and provides counsel to students in selection of options best suited to the student's goals, interests, and skills.
- Acts as a college/department/school representative to current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and external groups on issues related to academic success; attends and/or presents at orientation or recruiting events/activities/workshops.
- Works to ensure ongoing satisfaction for students with their program and degree progress, provides follow up to ensure satisfaction with and effectiveness of services.
- Regularly monitors assessment resources to refine and build effective practices.
- Possesses a clear understanding of the larger picture of the college and/or departmental processes and expectations around the utilization of these tools and how they impact student experience.
- Escalates/redirects urgent or conflicting requests.
- Recognizes complex issues and alerts leadership; may provide suggestions in response.
- Assists with the coordination of academic success program or advising policy development and implementation. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree AND one (1) year or more previous experience in one or more of the following: advising, student recruitment/retention or related student services utilizing a proactive and innovative approach which results in demonstrated outcomes in retention, graduation, and academic planning; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Evidence of a Master's degree in education/higher education, student personnel administration, student affairs, or closely related field.
- Experience working in academic advising for higher education.
- Experience offering a high level of customer service that prioritizes the success of a student in their approach to academic advising.
- Experience working with undergraduate students and providing student success services; knowledge of student development theory.
- Experience in rapidly adapting and effectively utilizing new technology, practices, policies and methods.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Experience using ASU technology to facilitate advising including DARS, PeopleSoft, Retention Dashboard, Salesforce, eAdvisor and critical tracking tools.
- Demonstrated knowledge of ASU's academic structure and organization; academic programs, colleges, and departments university wide.
- Experience designing presentation materials.
- Experience giving oral presentations in group settings.
- Demonstrated knowledge of ASU's Downtown Phoenix campus.
Working Environment

- Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
- Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear.
- Use office equipment, i.e. printers, copiers, fax machines, telephones, calculator.
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, may include/subject to resolution of conflicts.
- Use of software/computer equipment for extended periods of time.
- Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze and report data/results of tests conducted.

Flexible work options:
This position is eligible for Hybrid work. This is an arrangement where employees spend a minimum of 60% of their regular workweek at their primary ASU work location.
