Job Description

The School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment Research Advancement (RA) Team is looking for an individual interested in making a difference in the world, working with faculty who are making globally impactful advances in research, and having a career in a profession with various opportunities for growth.

Professionals in Research Advancement collaborate with university professors and researchers in preparing and submitting research proposals. Research Advancement Professionals provide administrative services such as budget development, drafting agency-specific documents, interpretation of guidelines and policies, interaction with internal departments, institutional research administration and leadership, and coordination and collaboration with federal agencies. Professionals in Research Advancement are essential in helping researchers further advance scientific knowledge that benefits the public. The ideal candidate for this position will be someone that enjoys being part of a collaborative team environment supporting directly, researchers who are making globally impactful advances in research. They should be someone that has strong attention to detail, is looking to grow a career in a profession with various opportunities for growth, demonstrates excellent customer service skills, values continuous improvement, and enjoys complex problem-solving.

Essential Duties

Budget Management

  • Develops budgets and budget narratives in conjunction with investigator- provided information and sponsor guidelines.
  • Creates budgets using accepted university systems and tools, and sponsors budget formats.
  • Budgets cost share and obtains appropriate approvals.

Compliance Management

  • Completes additional sponsor-required forms, checking for compliance (current and pending support, bio sketches) according to university policies and guidelines.
  • Assists sub-recipients with questions related to completing sub-recipient forms.
  • Manages post-submission action items requested by the sponsor such as just-in-time requests, revised budgets, the scope of work changes, and additional certifications.

Administrative

  • Independently reviews funding announcements and provides guidance on eligibility and sponsor requirements to investigators.
  • Independently reviews proposals against guidelines for compliance before sending them to the Office of Research and Sponsored Project Administration
  • Provides guidance and counsel during development and pre-submission review which includes document management.
  • Uploads grant and contract proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies to verify and ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable regulatory and financial compliance requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field. Three years of experience in a field appropriate to the area/unit of assignment OR Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been achieved.
