Dr. Joseph M. Lukens of the Research Technology Office (RTO) and Quantum Collaborative at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for an Open Rank Research Scientist in Integrated Quantum Photonics. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Lukens to design, test, and deploy quantum photonic integrated circuits (PICs) in a deployed quantum metro area network in the Tempe/Phoenix metro area, with a particular focus on frequency-bin encoding.

Supported by the Quantum Collaborative, an Arizona-state funded initiative promoting collaboration throughout the quantum ecosystem and including an expanding list of industrial and academic partners (https://quantumcollaborative.org/), Dr. Lukens’ testbed currently comprises two fiber-connected optics labs on the ASU campus, one of which includes a recently added PIC test station (https://lukenslab.quantumcollaborative.org/).

Essential Duties

This position will design, set up, and test quantum PICs, perform quantum networking experiments, and write papers describing results of the research. The postdoc will also mentor and assist graduate students in the lab, although no formal supervisory or teaching roles are required.

Desired Qualifications (all ranks)

  • Postdoctoral Experience.
  • Experience in experimental optics and photonics.
  • Experience in photonic integrated circuit (PIC) design and testing.
  • Record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Familiarity with quantum mechanics and quantum information processing.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided simulations and analyses.
