Job Description
The Instructional Designer Principal will lead the pedagogical strategy and implementation for the ITSI Diversifying Semiconductor Supply Chains Project, specifically focusing on the Semiconductor Faculty Certification (SFC) Program.
The Semiconductor Faculty Certification (SFC) program under the ITSI initiative is designed to equip faculty from partner countries (Costa Rica, Indonesia, Mexico, Panama, the Philippines, and Vietnam) with the advanced knowledge and pedagogical skills needed to cultivate a highly skilled semiconductor workforce. This comprehensive program includes targeted training in semiconductor assembly, testing, and packaging (ATP) operations, alongside instructional design best practices. By empowering educators with cutting-edge industry insights and educational methodologies, the SFC program aims to create a sustainable pipeline of talent, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to meet the evolving demands of the global semiconductor industry.
The Instructional Designer Principal will work closely with ASU faculty, external partners, and other instructional designers to ensure the instructional integrity and effectiveness of all program components. The position demands a high level of expertise in instructional design, curriculum development, and project management to ensure that all learning materials are both effective and aligned with industry and academic standards.

Essential Duties
Pedagogical Leadership:
- Lead the comprehensive review and enhancement of micro-credentials, ensuring scaffolded learning and alignment of learning outcomes with assessments.
- Oversee the design and delivery of in-country workshops, working closely with FSE faculty to structure these sessions to meet educational and industry goals.
- Collaborate with a team of instructional designers to co-develop and facilitate in-country design clinics, ensuring consistency and quality across all learning experiences.
- Serve as an instructor for the SFC program, delivering workshops and providing mentorship to faculty participants in their implementation projects.
- Travel to the six ITSI partner countries to lead and support in-country workshops and faculty development initiatives.
Instructional Design and Development:
- Lead the creation, development, and revision of course materials and instructional content, ensuring they meet the needs of diverse learner populations and align with project objectives.
- Apply best practices in instructional design and adult learning theory to create engaging and effective learning experiences.
- Develop comprehensive instructional materials, including interactive content, assessments, and evaluation tools, to support the SFC program’s objectives.
- Conduct thorough needs analyses to identify learning objectives and align them with industry competencies, ensuring that program participants acquire the necessary skills and knowledge.
Project Management:
- Manage multiple instructional design projects simultaneously, ensuring all deliverables are completed on time and within scope.
- Coordinate with external partners, stakeholders, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure that all instructional materials are accurate, up-to-date, and relevant to the semiconductor industry.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of instructional materials and delivery methods, making data-driven recommendations for improvement.
- Maintain clear and open communication with project stakeholders, providing regular updates on project progress and addressing any challenges that arise.
Faculty and Participant Support:
- Provide ongoing support and mentorship to faculty participants, guiding them in the application of instructional strategies and the integration of new technologies into their teaching practices.
- Offer feedback on participants’ implementation projects, helping them to refine their approaches and achieve their learning objectives.
- Serve as a resource for faculty and staff, offering expertise in instructional design, curriculum development, and educational technology.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field. Seven (7) years of providing learning/instructional design and/or technology development services.
Or, any equivalent combination of experience or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Evidence of a Bachelor’s degree in education, instructional design, project management, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
- Five ( 5) years of experience in instructional design, project management, or a related field, preferably in a higher education or corporate training environment.
- Experience in project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and stakeholders effectively.
- Experience in instructional design and curriculum development, with a focus on professional learning and faculty professional development.
- Evidence of effective communication skills, with experience in stakeholder management.
- Experience in working work collaboratively in a team environment and lead cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated knowledge with microcredential programs and the development of certification programs.
- Experience in preparing and presenting academic papers is a plus.
- Experience in project management tools and software (e.g., MS Project, Trello, or similar).
- Demonstrated knowledge with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) and other educational technologies.
- Experience in basic graphic design coordination skills or experience working with graphic designers.
Working Environment
- Activities are generally performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse;
- Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds
- Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and are subject to the resolution of conflicts
- May be required to perform tasks in the field within and/or across University campuses
- May be required to travel domestically or internationally for development, implementation, and oversight of global initiatives
