Job Description
Under the administrative direction of the Director of Student Connection and Community (SCC) and the
Director of Student Unions and Centers, the Associate Director of Student Connection and Community
provides input and local oversight for the design, administration, delivery, supervision and fiscal
management of Student Connection and Community on the Downtown Campus.
Under the direction of the Director of Student Connection and Community, the Associate Director will be
responsible for efforts related to leadership programs, student activities, clubs and organizations, and
University wide events such as Fall Welcome, Family Weekend, Homecoming, etc.
Under the direction of the Director for Student Unions and Centers, the Associate Director will be
responsible for the day to day operations of the Student Center at the Post Office which includes
management of room reservations, asset inventory, work order management, audio-visual technical
support and serving as the first point of contact for any building emergencies or concerns.
This role is also responsible for the supervision, hiring, training, evaluation, and time approval of
approximately 30 student employees and student leaders, playing a key role in student employee skill
building/development and enhancing the student employment program in the Student Center and
supporting student-led programming initiatives.

Flexible work arrangements are available in an alternative or hybrid schedule but will be based on
the work and the needs of the university and department operations and pending leadership
approval.
Currently hiring for the following days and hours: Monday Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm This position is
salaried and will minimally work a 40-hour work week and requires availability on nights and weekends,
as needed, for ASU programs and events. Work location is primarily at the Downtown Campus; however,
incumbent will be required to travel to other ASU campuses and occasionally to off-campus events.

Essential Duties
- Under the direction of the SCC Director, leads the Downtown campus for SCC in strategic planning and provides local leadership for the planning, implementation, delivery and evaluation of programs and services, and reporting that are consistent with university and Educational Outreach and Student Service's mission and goals.
- Supports the Dean of Student's office at the Downtown Campus in creating a unique student experience on that campus. This includes participating in local meetings, supporting local initiatives and overall enhancement of the student experience.
- Assist with student organizational advising and support, through supervision of staff and
- advisement of students.
- Enhance the student experience downtown and University wide through advising and supervising staff who advise the Programming and Activities board.
- Collaborate with the Dean of Students and the Cultural Connections team in supporting a strategic plan for enhancing the diverse student experience and Culture@ ASU.
- Monitor daily operations of the Student Center to ensure safe, clean, well-maintained facilities are provided to users.
- Oversee Mazevo scheduling software and lead the student team to ensure high-quality service to student, staff, and external entities interested in reserving rooms and using facilities for events.
- Set staffing expectations for the Information Desk and event shifts with appropriate service hours to manage all building needs.
- Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with members of the community and the community at large from diverse backgrounds.
- Advance student experiences to cultivate community, healthfulness, and skill building
- Support University wide events, such as Move in and Welcome Week, Homecoming and Family Weekend. Leads efforts in two University Wide events for Homecoming Week.
- Develops, maintains, and implements department policies and procedures.
- Participates in assessment efforts within the department, including basic tracking of activities, program evaluation, and measurement of learning outcomes.
- Makes suggestions to resolve problems and issues affecting the department and directs measures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the department.
- Support SCC Director with contract responsibilities for major campus initiatives including performance related activities and strategic partnerships
- Accountable for fiscal issues related to Downtown Campus SCC, including budgeting, budget tracking, year-end forecasting, and development of new revenue streams.
- Develops and maintains strong, professional, interpersonal relationships with student leaders.
- Leads in the recruitment, hiring, training, development, supervision evaluation of professional staff for SCC on the Downtown Campus. Assist in the recruitment, hiring, training, development, supervision, evaluation of professional staff in SCC, as appropriate, to ensure effective staff performance across campus locations.
- Serve in an advisory role with ASASU.
- Co-Advises the Sun Devil Leadership Council for the Downtown Campus.
- Ensure the responsible planning and expenditure of fiscal resources in a manner consistent with all university policies and procedures and applicable local, state, and federal laws.
- Demonstrate role modeling, ethical decision-making, cultural competency, responsible management, and leadership for students through all actions and communications.
- Represent Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) through attendance and active participation at campus, university and off-campus committees, events and programs
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND seven (7) years of related administrative experience, which includes four (4) years of supervisory experience; OR, Eleven (11) years of related administrative experience, which includes four (4) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
