Access ASU is dedicated to increasing access to higher education and preparing Arizona students for success through family engagement, strategic K-12 education, and community partnerships. Access ASU’s programs and initiatives are designed to ensure all Arizona students graduate high school ready to thrive in college and the 21st-century workforce.
Access ASU is hiring an Assistant Director focusing on implementing K-12 pre-college programs. Under general supervision, the Assistant Director leads the planning and implementation of outreach experiences and initiatives that continually engage current and previous Access ASU program participants in college preparation, near-peer mentorship, and career exploration.

The Assistant Director will also work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to support the expansion of K-12 outreach throughout Arizona providing resources to support students and families. This position is front-facing, working closely and collaborating with community partners within their assigned portfolio to continue to create a college-going culture. The Assistant Director will actively move Access ASU initiatives forward, including increasing access to higher education for K-12 students and their families via residential summer camp programs, conferences, special events, and collaborative partnerships.

The ideal candidate must work well independently in a fast-paced environment and provide a high level of customer service to both the university and external communities

The position reports to the Director – Community Outreach, and is primarily based on the Tempe campus and will be expected to travel to other campus locations and throughout metropolitan Phoenix as needed.

Regular Schedule: In-person, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday; however, every team member must count on working during evenings and weekends as needed. Work location is primarily at the Memorial Union building at the ASU Tempe Campus; however, the incumbent must travel to off-campus events and other ASU campuses in their own vehicle when applicable.

Essential Duties

  • Provide a significant level of leadership and support for K-12 Outreach programs including but not limited to Community Partners, Special Events, Conferences and Summer Programs.

Team Leadership and Supervision:
  • Supervise and mentor a team of professional and student staff, providing guidance and support in their roles and professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment that encourages innovation and excellence in service delivery.
  • Work as part of a team to support Access ASU programs and goals

Community Partners:
  • Manage portfolio of designated community partners.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Effectively communicate with community partners to develop and foster relationships.
  • Establish and track goals for application, admit, and enroll for senior cohort students.
  • Deliver training and professional development in the area of college readiness to K-12 teachers, parents, and counselors.
  • Coordinate and manage requests for Outreach services and materials to K-12 schools and other community partners.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to advance K-12 outreach throughout the State.
  • Schedule facility and services for use by campus and outside organizations.

Residential Summer Campus Programs:
  • Oversee planning and execution for residential summer campus programs that offer high school students an immersive experience of campus life and academic opportunities.
  • Collaborate with academic departments, student affairs, and other campus entities to design enriching and diverse program schedules.
  • Work closely with marketing team to develop and implement strategies to maximize participation from targeted demographics
  • Provide on-site support and supervision of various camps during the summer.

Special Events and Conferences:
  • Oversee planning special events, including the AVID conference and Change The World: Rising Innovators Challenge, with a specific focus on providing college readiness and career exploration resources to attending students.
  • Coordinate communication and collaboration in support of Access ASU initiatives

Budget Management:
  • Support budget management for all outreach experiences programs, ensuring efficient use of resources while maintaining the quality of programs and services.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
  • Submit, track and analyze data related to campus visits, summer programs, and special events to measure their effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Gather, maintain, analyze, and submit data reports related to Access ASU.
Collaborative Partnerships:
  • Establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with Access ASU partner high schools, feeder schools, ASU academic units, ASU departments and other stakeholders to expand the reach and impact of campus experiences.
  • Coordinate communication and collaboration in support of Access ASU initiatives

Other
  • Lead development and coordination of high level supportive outreach strategies to meet the goals of enrolling the full demographic of Arizona students, with a focus on application, admittance, and enrollment to ASU.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND six (6) years of related administrative experience, which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Ten (10) years of related administrative experience, which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Evidence of a Master's degree in Education or related field.
  • Evidence of a high level of professionalism and maturity.
  • Bilingual: Spanish/English-write and read- preferred.
  • Experience working with college students in a higher education setting.
  • Experience working with diverse grade level student populations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and program/activity plans.
  • Experience working with college preparatory programs that serve under resourced student populations such as first-generation and/or low-income students.
  • Experience in interacting with a wide range of constituents in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience developing and/or implementing college readiness programs.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.
  • Experience with internal and external collaboration and partnerships.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and prioritizing workloads with competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic computer skills, including use of MS Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access, Outlook), social media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, etc.), Google Drive and ASU computer systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Salesforce, Canvas, etc.).

Working Environment

  • Drive as needed to partner and program event sites. A clean driving record, a valid Arizona driver's license, adequate automobile insurance, and a vehicle drivable for long distances within the Phoenix valley are required.
