Description

The Faculty of the School of Counseling and Counseling Psychology (SCCP) in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts (CISA) at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for two clinical assistant professor positions who will be primarily focused on the undergraduate and MC online programs. The successful candidates will be able to teach undergraduate and graduate counseling courses.

The School of Counseling and Counseling Psychology (SCCP) is home to an APA-accredited PhD program in counseling psychology, a master’s program in clinical mental health counseling approved by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners, and an undergraduate program that offers degrees in psychology (PSY) and counseling and applied psychological science (CAP). The CAP Bachelor of Science is one of the first in the nation at a large, public research institution. Our undergraduate programs are based at the Polytechnic campus; and courses are offered via ASU Online and at three metro area campuses—Polytechnic, Tempe, and Downtown. Currently, we have over 1,200 undergraduates declaring CAP as their major and over 3,250 students enrolled in our classes each semester. We expect the demand for our undergraduate courses to keep growing as we expand the offering of CAP courses on the Tempe and Downtown campuses and with the recent introduction of two new concentrations (“Sport & Performance Counseling” and “Counseling Military Members & Veterans”) that supplement our existing concentration in “Substance Abuse & Addictions.” A fourth concentration (“Sexuality & Gender Issues in Counseling”) has been approved and is under development.

We recently developed a specialization track in school counseling and are approved to develop a Spanish certificate program for mental health professionals. This year, we launched the online master’s program in mental health counseling and admitted our inaugural cohort in Fall of 2024. SCCP offers a collegial faculty that emphasizes outstanding scholarship, teaching, clinical supervision, and professional service in the spirit of enhancing society. We are seeking scholars who embody ASU’s Charter of inclusion, use-inspired research, inclusive excellence and social embeddedness.

ASU Charter:

ASU is a comprehensive public research university, measured not by whom it excludes, but by whom it includes and how they succeed; advancing research and discovery of public value; and assuming fundamental responsibility for the economic, social, cultural and overall health of the communities it serves.

These positions are for an academic-year appointment with an expected start date of August 2025. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-eligible position renewable on an academic year basis contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university. Candidates must reside in Arizona or be willing to relocate. Clinical faculty have the strong possibility of long-term careers at ASU based on continued excellent performance, the needs of the institution, and the availability of funding. Salary is competitive and dependent on qualifications and experience.

ASU's College of Integrative Sciences and Arts is home to innovative faculty members who are guided by educational access, student success, applied learning, interdisciplinary inquiry, and research. CISA has over 8,200 students in all levels of degree programs and 235 full-time faculty members. We understand that there are many paths to achieving a university education, and we build undergraduate and graduate degree programs and pathways that are flexible and relevant for a rapidly changing world. CISA is committed to ASU’s Charter of inclusive excellence, where all faculty, staff, and students can thrive.

Arizona State University, ranked the No. 1 “Most Innovative School” in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for nine years in succession, has forged the model for a New American University. Year after year, ASU ranks at or near the top of the list in areas that matter. ASU is a comprehensive public research institution, measured not by whom it excludes, but by whom it includes and how they succeed; advancing research and discovery of public value; and assuming fundamental responsibility for the economic, social, cultural and overall health of the communities it serves. ASU operates on the principles that learning is a personal and original journey for each student; that they thrive on experience and that the process of discovery cannot be bound by traditional academic disciplines. Through innovation and a commitment to accessibility, ASU has drawn pioneering researchers to its faculty even as it expands opportunities for qualified students, attracting some of the highest- quality students from all 50 states and more than 130 nations.
