Communications Specialist
Job Description
Develops and implements the college's communication strategies, programs and project content, and materials for a variety of projects that effectively market and disseminate information, and promotes the college's activities to internal and external constituents including faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, and the community. Reports to the Dean.

Essential Duties
- Write and edit copy for websites, email, print pieces and more on deadline
- Serve as the communications team’s AP Style champion
- Perform daily website updates
- Manage an editorial content calendar
- Proactively engage with school stakeholders and community members to mine and tell effective stories in pursuit of school recruitment and engagement goals
- Lead email production, performance analysis and optimization using SalesForce Marketing Cloud
- Coordinate visual media with team members
- Serve as liaison to related central university communications teams
- Measure and report on digital content performance
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing, Education or a related field AND three (3) years of related work experience in the development of comprehensive and creative communication; OR seven (7) years of related work experience; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved. Certificates from recognized programs that verify mastery of tools and techniques relevant to the assignment may substitute for up to six (6) months of experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Evidence of a strong portfolio of written strategic communication work
- Evidence of strong editing skills and AP Style knowledge
- Experience creating or producing digital content and/or campaigns at a professional content organization or agency
- Experience using a CMS to manage content
- Experience creating and managing an editorial content calendar
- Experience in project management and team management using a project management system (e.g. Asana, Monday.com, Basecamp)
- Experience using SalesForce Marketing Cloud to produce and optimize email campaigns
- Experience using performance data to pivot content
- Experience using content and/or campaigns to advance higher education admissions goals
Working Environment
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.
- Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
- Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
- Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.;
- Supervises designated employees that include hiring, training, evaluations, disciplinary actions and scheduling.
- This position reports to the department administrator.
