Job Description

Sun Devil Athletics seeks a Management Intern to oversee daily operation of the Nutrition Bar for student-athletes at Sun Devil Sports Performance. Under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director for SDA Nutrition, the individual hired will maintain all aspects of the registered food establishment, including assisting with menu design, maintaining records, maintaining food safety standards, assuring quality control in food preparation, and delivering a high level of customer service. The ideal candidate must work well in a fast‐paced, flexible environment, and make strong contributions both as an individual and as a team player. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail oriented, possess strong communication skills, and manages multiple tasks efficiently. This is a part-time 20 hour per week position. This position adheres to NCAA and Big 12 rules and regulations, as well as the policies and procedures of the department, the university, and the Arizona Board of Regents.

Essential Duties

  • Oversee daily scheduled operation of Nutrition Bar, under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director for SDA Nutrition.
  • Properly prepare, serve, and store food in accordance within current applicable federal, state, and county standards and regulations.
  • Oversee ordering and receiving of inventory, and communicating with vendors.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Maintain records such as inventory, temperatures, equipment maintenance.
  • Clean and sanitize work stations and equipment following all regulatory rules and procedures.
  • Assist with nutrition education for student-athletes.
  • Assist with training and supervising student workers.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid card or certificate issued by an ANSI-accredited food handler training program (such as ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification). (REQUIRED).
  • Food handling experience
  • Experience in a D1 athletic program.
  • Evidence of having university-level nutrition coursework highly desired.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally-controlled setting at the Sun Devil Sports Performance Nutrition Bar.
  • The position is subject to extended periods of standing.
  • Use of keyboard, computer mouse, general office machines, and handwriting tools.
  • Use of typical kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Use of kitchen washing and sanitizing chemicals and equipment.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • The job requires the ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions.
  • The schedule will vary according to the planned meal schedules for student athletes and may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
