Job Description

The Department of English at Arizona State University invites applications for a Program Manager to assist with strategic planning of curricular requirements and class offerings for both graduate and undergraduate degree programs. Under the direction of the Associate Chair for Curriculum, the Program Manager will analyze current program data, track instructional expenses and course revenue, build semester schedules, coordinate room assignments and staffing, manage the hiring of Faculty Associates and Graders, provide data-driven reports to support curricular planning, help to propose and implement new courses, and maintain strong lines of communication with various stakeholders.

Essential Duties

  • Under the direction of the Associate Chair of Curriculum, work collaboratively with stakeholders both on regular curriculum design, development, and implementation as well as on special projects that arise.
  • Tracks instructional expenses and course revenue.
  • Prepares reports on enrollment, staffing, budget, etc.
  • Completes and submits course and program-related forms.
  • Maintains library of course syllabi, incomplete contracts, individual study agreements, and other curricular documents.
  • Builds, maintains and updates academic course schedules by semester and/or terms.
  • Organizes course information and posts end-of-term course evaluations of faculty.
  • Monitors real-time class enrollments, and evaluates and responds to changing needs.
  • Supports Associate Chair of Curriculum in scheduling, projects, and related duties.
  • Maintains the Associate Chair’s calendar.
  • Manages and tracks the hiring of Faculty Associates and Graders.
  • Tracks and approves weekly Grader hours.
  • Prepares and analyzes data for strategic schedule- and curriculum-planning.
  • Initiates, develops and sustains strong positive relations with program administrators and department chairs to ensure achievement of the mission and goals of the department and college.
  • Communicates with English Department faculty, students, employees with other departments and university administrators.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, professional development seminars and other student support related meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field AND five years administrative/coordination experience; OR, Master's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND three years administrative/coordination experience; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience compiling, analyzing and communicating data, especially budget information.
  • Experience with course scheduling management in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general principles of enrollment management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of program management and administration principles, practices and procedures.
  • Experience working with online university systems including: PeopleSoft, MyReports, ASTRA (or other scheduling software), and data dashboards.
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, and Outlook) at an advanced level (exp. managing group calendars, advanced formatting, mail merge, pivot tables, etc.).
  • Experience working effectively in an environment subject to quickly changing priorities.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with as well as problem solving with diverse populations.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers, faculty, students, administration and other interested parties.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environment-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse (75%)
  • Frequently required to stand for varying lengths of time and travel moderate distances to perform work (25%).
  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions.
  • This position receives regular review of objectives.


This position is eligible for flexible work arrangements after 90 days of employment with proper approval.

Alternative work schedules can include four, 10-hour workdays in a workweek; a nine-day, 80-hour schedule over two workweeks for exempt employees only; and staggered start and stop times.
