Description
A program for advancing the state of the art of linear accelerators and the associated RF systems is being established within Arizona State University’s Biodesign Institute and the Department of Physics. This is closely related to ASU’s Compact X-ray FEL (CXFEL) generating ultrashort and coherent X-rays in a room-sized facility. We invite applications for an Open-Rank Research Scientist working on the physics of high-gradient linear accelerators, their associated RF systems and the technologies for their production. The areas of research span a range of topics including Linac topologies, normal conducting and superconducting material characterization, manufacturing technologies, and system integrations. The research effort will also address novel RF sources; for which new topologies will be considered together with the developments of the necessary theoretical foundations and simulation algorithms need for these novel sources. The successful applicant will join the team of researchers that are working on these novel topics and will be exposed to the research effort of the Compact X-ray Free-Electron Laser (CXFEL) under a recent NSF midscale research infrastructure award.
- Design, Simulation and construction of novel accelerators.
- Development of normal conducting and superconducting test facilities to characterize the high gradient performance of accelerator cavities and material properties.
- Develop high-gradient linac test facility
- Push the state-of-the-art of simulation tools for novel RF sources
- Design, simulate and construct novel RF sources
- Examine new modalities for electron beam sources
