The School of Community Resources and Development in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions at Arizona State University, invites applications for one, full-time, benefits-eligible, academic-year (9 month), career-track position of Clinical Assistant Professor to begin January or August 2025.

The School of Community Resources and Development (SCRD) is one of the four schools in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions, a vibrant community of scholars actively committed to excellence in education and innovative responses to collective problems. In Hospitality, Leisure, Sport, and Tourism, SCRD is ranked #7 in the world and #2 in the U.S. according to the Center for World University Rankings.
SCRD is located at ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus, a dynamic hub of the multi-campus Arizona State University that provides a multitude of academic and professional connections for students. We provide internationally recognized interdisciplinary research expertise and innovative academic programs in community development, recreational therapy, nonprofit leadership and management, parks, recreation and sport management, and tourism development and management. Courses are delivered through in-person, online, and hybrid platforms.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
● Teach four courses per semester in the School of Community Resources & Development in therapeutic recreation or related topics
● Develop and update course syllabi, integrating current research and best practices
● Prepare and administer exams, assess learning, and assign grades
● Collaborate with faculty to design course content and evaluation methods in alignment with industry standards and accreditation guidelines
● Promote student academic success through active mentorship promoting professional and academic development in roles such as student club advisor and honors student thesis committee member.
● Oversee students during clinical practicums or internships in therapeutic recreation settings
● Establish community-engaged learning experiences to support practical skill development in a variety of environments
● Serve on school, college, or university committees related to curriculum development, accreditation, and other relevant topics
● Foster relationships with community organizations relevant to therapeutic recreation
● Demonstrate leadership through engagement in local, national, or international professional organizations
● Advance the mission of the school and university through teaching and service
● Remain current on industry practices and maintain NCTRC credentialing through continuing education
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
● An earned master’s degree in parks and recreation, therapeutic recreation, or a related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment.
● Certification in Therapeutic Recreation through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification.
● Three years of related experience (related experience may include prior teaching, practitioner experience, and/or experience leading and facilitating presentations, training, and other activities.)

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Earned doctorate in recreation, therapeutic recreation, leisure studies, or a closely related field from an accredited institution by the time of appointment
- Demonstrated prior higher education teaching or guest lecturing experience
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with the community and establishing partnerships
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and student success as well as working with a variety of student populations
- Demonstrated experience with technology/course management systems
- Demonstrated ability to initiate and deliver innovative educational and programmatic opportunities to learners
- Demonstrated ability to work in collaborative teams

Applicants may be expected to give a teaching demonstration if invited for an interview. Interviews will be held at ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus. Applicants are expected to give a teaching/leadership/experience demonstration, if invited for an in-person interview.
