Description

Aligned with the leadership of the Executive Vice President and University Provost who provides overall direction for the campus working with the Vice Provost, the Assistant Vice Provost will provide campus-level engagement in advancing the Polytechnic campus's strategic priorities that include supporting the campus community, enrollment growth and student success, communication of the campus's contributions to ASU’s mission, and relationships with external stakeholders. This is a half-time, fiscal year, administrative appointment with a preferred start date of January 1, 2024.

Under the direction of the Vice Provost, the Assistant Vice Provost will have the following responsibilities:

  • Support regular convenings of campus deans and key leadership to facilitate collaboration between and across units in support of community-building, enrollment growth and student success.
  • Build, in coordination with Academic Alliances, partnerships with community colleges to enhance and facilitate transfer student enrollment and success on campus.
  • Support communication of the direction and contribution of the campus to ASU’s vision, mission and goals to a variety of internal and external stakeholders; including representing the University as directed at public-facing opportunities to the local community in partnership with key colleagues across the institution.
  • Partner with the Office of Government and Community Engagement to build and maintain relationships with local government leadership to advance University priorities.
  • Support campus-level fundraising and development efforts in partnership with the ASU Foundation.
  • Lead coordination of large-scale community engaging events on and around campus.
  • In partnership with the ASU Brand team, support ASU marketing and communications efforts targeting specific campus audiences.
  • Assist in identifying and addressing campus needs related to wayfinding, staffing of reception areas and community-facing spaces with no direct college affiliation.
  • Advocate for services, support and infrastructure necessary for the success of faculty, staff and students based on the unique needs of the campus.
  • Partner with the Vice Provost to participate in the campus Emergency Response Team for all emergencies impacting campus.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Eligible candidates must be tenured associate or tenured full professors or career track associate or full professors whose home academic unit is on the Polytechnic campus.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present ideas effectively and to listen.
  • A demonstrated ability to collaborate with leadership, faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds.
  • Operates with an inclusive mindset and is able to see how Poly connects with and embodies the ASU Charter.
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
  • Ability to lead individuals and teams around common goals and aspirations.
  • Skill and experience in deescalating and successfully resolving conflicts and complaints.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with leveraging Poly's location in the East Valley, understanding its many communities, including residential and business.
  • Demonstrated ability of building and maintaining relationships with local stakeholders, including business and municipal leaders, educators, and civic organizations in the East Valley.
  • Strong understanding of interdisciplinarity, encouraging collaboration across various disciplines and integrating multiple academic fields into the Polytechnic model.
  • Experience with enrollment management, student success initiatives, or academic partnerships.
