Research Technician
Job Description
This position will be heavily involved in participant recruitment, screening, retention, and data collection, including alcohol administration, for a grant funded research project. In addition, this position will perform basic data analysis and data management, as well as assist with manuscript preparation and writing articles for scholarly journals.

Essential Duties
- Conducts recruitment activities to increase subject participation.
- Contacts participants via phone and email for participant screening and appointment reminders.
- Tracks and enters participant data into computer.
- Conducts participant experiments, including beverage administration.
- Manages participation rates in subjects and provides retention reminders via email and phone.
- Will be thoroughly trained to follow rigorous and scripted experimental procedures and in the conduct of human subjects experiments.
- Conduct basic data analyses using the SPSS program. Assist in writing various sections of scientific articles.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Four years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in a social sciences research setting. Social science or Health Science based major and coursework. Demonstrated Knowledge with survey design software.
- Competency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and Internet use.
- Experience with data management and data analysis.
- Experience with scholarly paper writing.
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline. Knowledge of modern research methods, data collection and analyses.
- Evidence of effective communication.
- Experience in analyzing and evaluating data.
Working Environment
- Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties
- Communicate orally and in writing
- Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze and report data/results of tests conducted
- Conduct lab tests using appropriate equipment and protocols
- Deliver presentations to a variety of audiences
- Bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
- Initiate confidential correspondence on behalf of the project
- Conduct interviews over the phone or in person
- Schedule appointments and maintain calendar for project
- Use of basic math and a calculator
- Use office equipment including a desktop computer.
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse
- Works from general instructions on standard job duties and specific directions/instructions on new assignments
- Ability to work both independently within a complex structured team.
- Able to exercise judgment within generally defined practices & policies to determine appropriate action
