Description

The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) and the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering seek applicants for a post-doctoral scholar position in the area of high frequency power electronics. The School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering, one of the eight Fulton Schools, houses a vibrant power electronics, power and energy systems, and microelectronics engineering research community (Learn more at https://research.engineering.asu.edu/). We seek applicants who complement our abilities in these areas to solve grand challenges as part of a community of experts. Particular areas of interest include, but are not limited to, design and development of wide bandgap devices-based power electronic converters and systems, advanced control for multi-MHz operation, thermal analysis and design for a range of applications that include defense and space systems, data center power, renewable energy, and transportation electrification.

The primary job duties include:

  • Research and development of high performance, high frequency (multi-MHz) power electronic converters and systems.
  • Performing multi-disciplinary work including power electronic circuits, digital control and implementation, wide bandgap devices, thermal analysis and thermal management design.
  • Design, fabrication, testing and characterization of multiple hardware prototypes of power electronic systems.
  • Interaction with project partners and sponsors from industry and government.
  • Mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students.

This post doc position is applicable only to US citizens and Permanent Residents due to security clearance as this will be funded through a federal grant.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in electrical engineering or related discipline by the time of appointment.
  • Experience in design and development of high frequency power electronic converters.
  • Effective communication skills.

Desired qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience in developing wide bandgap power converters especially at MHz frequency scale and kW power levels.
  • Proficiency in control design and implementation using DSP and FPGA platforms.
  • Proficiency in high frequency magnetics design and analysis using tools such as ANSYS.
  • Proficiency in thermal analysis and design for high density power converters.
