Arizona State University's College of Health Solutions, Speech and Hearing Science Program, invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty position (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) in the area of pediatric speech or language disorders. This includes but is not limited to craniofacial disorders, autism, early language, literacy and reading disorders, and developmental language disorder.
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a productive research program, teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor students and junior faculty (for associate/full ranks), and contribute service to the program, university, and professional community. Required and desired qualifications for each rank are detailed below.

About Speech and Hearing Science
Arizona State University's Speech and Hearing Science program, part of the College of Health Solutions, fosters a vibrant, interdisciplinary environment at the forefront of health and education research. Our program advances the fields of speech-language pathology, speech science, language, and literacy through a strong integration of research, clinical practice, and community engagement. Faculty address cutting-edge research questions across varied topics, including auditory neuroscience, speech motor control, cognitive aging, and neuroplasticity in individuals with conditions like autism and brain injuries. We are also pioneering in areas such as digital biomarkers, machine learning, pediatric speech interventions, genetic basis of speech and language disorders, and language and literacy development in monolingual and bilingual children. Our program offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees, equipping students for success in both academic and clinical careers. The Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Science provides a solid foundation in communication sciences and disorders. We also offer a specialized Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) certificate for undergraduates. At the graduate level, our master’s programs in Communication Disorders and Auditory and Language Neuroscience emphasize clinical excellence and evidence-based practice. For professionals seeking specialized expertise, we offer a Graduate Certificate in Communication Disorders in Multilingual/Multicultural Populations, enhancing clinical practice in multicultural communities. Our PhD programs focus on auditory and language neuroscience, speech and hearing science, and communication disorders, offering students a broad spectrum of opportunities in research and clinical fields.
About the College of Health Solutions
The College of Health Solutions is committed to translating scientific health research and discovery into practice to improve health outcomes through education, research and service. We equip students with the knowledge and skills to influence healthier lifestyle choices; develop creative interventions to improve the health of people and populations; analyze and translate large amounts of health data into solutions; and maximize the technology, science, business and application of diagnostics. Through teaching, academic programs, service and research, faculty at the College of Health Solutions address one or more of our three major areas of focus: 1) The systems of health care and the health needs of populations; 2) Health and human performance of individuals across the lifespan; 3) Personalized interventions through precision health. Across these areas, we work to address complex and difficult health problems that require transformative collaboration, translational research and innovation. We are particularly interested in making an impact on populations with significant health disparities.
Our research programs encompass basic science, discovery science, clinical trials, intervention science and measurement of health outcomes. In all cases, our faculty use interdisciplinary approaches to address the complex systems that underpin health problems. We are highly collaborative, transparent and team-oriented. Our innovative organizational structure includes translational teams that move science from labs into communities with evidence-based interventions that make a difference, as well as affinity networks where teams of people work together to improve methodologies and processes. All of our programs, in and out of the classroom, are designed with the goal of improving the health of people and communities.
Current training programs by areas of study include biomedical informatics, biomedical diagnostics, health care systems, health sciences & medical studies, movement sciences, nutrition, population health, the science of healthcare delivery, and speech and hearing sciences. Our programs are offered at the ASU Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, Polytechnic, and West campuses, as well as on Mayo Clinic’s campus in north Phoenix.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
All Ranks
- Doctorate: A PhD in speech or language science, or a closely related field (e.g., communication sciences and disorders, cognitive neuroscience, psychology, developmental science).
- Expertise and Research Focus: Demonstrated expertise and focus on research in pediatric populations
- Publication Record: A strong track record of peer-reviewed publications appropriate to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.
- Funding Success: Proven history or strong potential to secure external funding as a Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-Investigator (Co-I) to support a dynamic research portfolio, consistent with rank.
- Service Contribution: Active engagement in service to the university, community, and/or professional organizations, aligned with the expectations for rank.
- Teaching Experience: Evidence of, or potential for, teaching effectiveness in university-level courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, appropriate to the rank.
- Inclusive Excellence: Demonstrated support for ASU’s mission of inclusive excellence as outlined in the ASU Charter.
Assistant Professor
- Research Funding Potential: Demonstrated potential to secure extramural funding to build a robust research portfolio.
- Publications: Evidence showing capability of publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
- Teaching: Demonstrated potential to teach university-level courses in speech, language, or literacy science.
- Mentorship: Initial evidence of success in mentoring students in research.
- Service Engagement: Early evidence of commitment to service within the program and profession.
Associate/Full Professor
- Competitive Research Funding Track Record: Demonstrated success in securing extramural funding from highly competitive sources, such as NIH, PCORI, CDC, NSF, and other federal agencies or foundations (e.g., Robert Wood Johnson Foundation).
- Publication Excellence: A sustained record of peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals, appropriate for the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
- Leadership in Training Grants: Experience leading or co-leading extramural training grants.
- Teaching and Program Development: Strong record of successful teaching and program development at both undergraduate and graduate levels in speech, language, or literacy, consistent with rank expectations.
- Mentorship: Demonstrated experience in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in research, presentations, and publications. Experience mentoring junior faculty.
Desired Qualifications
- Expertise and research: Demonstrated experience and focus on pediatric populations in areas such as craniofacial disorders, autism, early language, literacy and reading disorders, and developmental language disorder
- Expertise: Strong background, knowledge, and research experience in areas aligned with the needs of Arizona’s multicultural populations and the College’s core focus areas including multilingual/multicultural populations.
- Professional Certification: ASHA certification and eligibility for Arizona state licensure.
- Community and Collaborative Engagement: Experience in developing and sustaining community partnerships, as well as in interprofessional or team-based collaborations.
- Research Impact: Proven record of conducting research with significant impact.
- Teaching Versatility: Experience teaching both online and in-person courses at undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Interdisciplinary Science Initiatives: Participation in translational, transdisciplinary, or team science initiatives that align with the College of Health Solutions’ research domains.
- Student Success Initiatives: Demonstrated commitment to activities that support student retention and graduation.
