Job Details and Essential Duties
The School of Human Evolution and Social Change (SHESC) at Arizona State University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Scholar in Global Health to teach and conduct research in SHESC’s global health programs. The position is under the supervision of Dr. Roseanne Schuster, lead for the MS in Global Health degree program. The postdoctoral research scholar will contribute to the instructional mission of SHESC through teaching in the undergraduate and master’s global health programs (50%) and conducting research related to instruction in global health and the scholar’s own research agenda (50%).
The successful applicant will work with a dynamic global health faculty who launched the first global health undergraduate degree and continues to cultivate one of the largest global health training programs in the country. The postdoctoral research scholar will be expected to teach two existing online courses in each of the fall and spring semesters and, in the summer semester, teach an existing course and contribute to the development of a new online course. The postdoctoral research scholar will collaborate with global health faculty to conduct research related to the instruction of global health programs, particularly master’s programs, including but not limited to how the structures of applied experiences (e.g., internships) impact student career readiness and associated outcomes. The postdoctoral research scholar will publish the results of this research in scholarly venues. Research duties may include organizing and implementing research plans, leading primary data collection and data analysis, preparing manuscripts for publication in journals; supervising undergraduate or graduate student interns; presenting and attending conferences and seminars, and other duties as assigned.
The Global Health faculty and all of SHESC value our cultural and intellectual breadth, and continually strive to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment. We are especially interested in applicants who demonstrate strong commitment to the goals of the ASU Charter in their research and teaching approaches.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- This position will contribute to the teaching mission of SHESC’s undergraduate and graduate global health programs in consultation with the faculty mentor and the SHESC Director. This will include teaching online courses that have already been developed and collaborating with faculty on the design and development of new courses.
- This position will advance SHESC’s leadership in global health instruction through trans-disciplinary research on educational and career-related outcomes of the MS program. This will include publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals and advancing innovative and important scholarship on the science of teaching and learning.
This is an in-person, full-time, fiscal-year, term-limited 1-year position. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2025 but may be earlier or later. The fiscal year (12-month) salary for this position is $61,008 along with competitive benefits through ASU including health insurance, paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays. The appointment may be renewable for an additional year pending sufficient funding and successful execution of the teaching and research goals. The Postdoctoral research scholar should be in residence in the greater-Phoenix metropolitan area during the appointment, to benefit from engagement with the global health and interdisciplinary SHESC faculty and training opportunities available on the ASU campuses.
