The Gary K. Herberger Young Scholars Academy is a learning environment on the Arizona State University West Valley campus designed for highly gifted students in grades 7-12. Funded in part by an endowment from the Herberger Family and supported by ASU, it was founded to address the needs of academically and intellectually gifted students in the Phoenix area. The Gary K. Herberger Young Scholars Academy at Arizona State University invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible, 1.0 FTE Middle and High School Math Instructional Professional position. This in-person position is on ASU’s West Valley campus; no remote option is available. Under administrative direction, this position will teach a math curriculum focusing on Algebra and Geometry. The anticipated start date for this position is July 21, 2025. The 2025-2026 Academic Year is July 28, 2025, through May 22, 2026.
Essential Functions:
The successful candidate for the Middle and High School Math Instructional Professional position at Gary K. Herberger Young Scholars Academy will facilitate learning in a middle and high school mathematics program, focusing on Algebra and Geometry. Being a school for highly and profoundly gifted students, candidates will support students in fulfilling their potential for intellectual, emotional, and social growth. In addition, successful candidates will maintain and foster good working relationships with students, parents, faculty, and educational partners.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited university in education with math certification, mathematics, or equivalent field
- Three (3) years of successful teaching experience
- Experience teaching middle school and/or high school math curriculum
- Ability to present/obtain a valid fingerprint clearance card upon hire
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from an accredited university
- Degree in gifted education and/or gifted endorsement
- Evidence of interest in developing professional knowledge and experience in gifted education
- Evidence of knowledge and understanding of the cognitive, social, and emotional characteristics, needs, and problems found in gifted students

Additional items (certifications, transcripts, etc.) may be requested if necessary. The application deadline is April 4, 2025. Applications will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis for a reserve pool. Applications in the reserve pool may then be reviewed in the order in which they were received until the position is filled.
A background check and fingerprint clearance card are required for employment.
