Description
Arizona State University's School of Medicine and Medical Engineering will admit its first class in September 2026. The ASU Library seeks an experienced Medical Librarian to join our team during 2025 in order to prepare for the arrival of students, to work with faculty preparing for the new school, and to take the leadership role in collection development and management in anticipation of the opening. A distinctive feature of the school will be its connection to ASU's Fulton Schools of Engineering, in which each MD recipient will also be expected to earn an appropriate engineering master's. ASU also has the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation and a separate College of Health Solutions, which are located on the ASU downtown Phoenix campus close to the site of the future School of Medicine and are supported by two health sciences librarians.
Accordingly, we seek an experienced medical librarian to focus on collections and services in the medical environment and prepared to collaborate with other members of the ASU Library community to provide holistic support for students in the dual program. We will place a special emphasis, therefore, on identifying candidates with experience in student instruction and support and in interdisciplinary collaborations.
We seek someone with deep knowledge of trends in health sciences librarianship and the ability to lead development of the library of the new school through its initial years, aligning library resources and services with evolving academic and clinical needs. Evidence of experience going beyond the traditional parameters of librarianship is always welcome in America's most innovative university. We expect this position will lead to the opportunity for appointment as director of this library as it grows in its collections, staff, and services.
The ASU Library is a center of learning, exploration and discovery. With eight locations embedded in Arizona and at ASU California Center Grand, the library plays a vital role in expanding knowledge, cultivating community and inspiring innovation at ASU and in our communities. Students and faculty can access millions of information resources, world-class collections, outstanding study spaces, advanced data centers and creative maker services. As supporters of student success, the library is a critical partner in realizing the New American University’s mission of access, excellence and impact. ASU Library empowers people to unlock their potential, express themselves and learn to thrive. For more information or to find library locations, visit lib.asu.edu.
