Reporting to the CEO, the Associate Dean of Academic & Student Affairs provides leadership to all academic and student services areas and reflects the mission, vision, and charter of the institution. The Associate Dean of Academic & Student Affairs oversees instructional departments, advising, learning resources, financial aid, recruitment, admissions, and other units assigned by the CCASU CEO. The Associate Dean of Academic & Student Affairs is responsible for student learning, student success, quality of instruction, data-informed decision making, and the pursuit of academic excellence and integrity at CCASU. The Associate Dean of Academic & Student Affairs is an advocate for all academic programs and student services, providing leadership to faculty and staff to ensure consistent quality standards in curriculum and programs that meet the needs of students. The Associate Dean of Academic & Student Affairs provides leadership in long-range planning, budgeting; curriculum; and program development/assessment. The Associate Dean of Academic & Student Affairs ensures compliance with various accreditation agencies as well as state accreditation and regulations. The Associate Dean of Academic & Student Affairs serves on the CCASU executive team. Additionally, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs maintains relationships with external entities and provides leadership in the areas of retention and graduation of students, and the resources they require to participate in the programs. This full-time position carries the faculty rank of Clinical Professor. The earliest anticipated start date for this position is May 19, 2025.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership for planning, developing, and improving instructional programs, which may include but are not limited to liberal arts and workforce programs, faculty initiatives and professional development, academic support, assessment, accreditation compliance, alternate delivery methods, and institutional effectiveness.
  • Fosters intellectual growth, student learning, and scholarly and creative activities by providing academic strategic planning, administrative leadership, direction, and evaluation for all academic activities, faculty affairs, and student services activities at CCASU, providing leadership in fostering campus growth and advancing multidisciplinary programming and scholarship.
  • Leads the ongoing development of the instructional division toward challenging the status quo to elevate the instructional experience to ensure that all students receive the connection, engagement, teaching innovation, and immersive support needed to thrive to achieve their academic and career goals.
  • Provides leadership for the operational planning, management and continuous improvement of student services units, to include advising, financial aid, recruitment, admissions, and learning resources.
  • Demonstrates sound fiscal management and decision-making by overseeing program development, budgets, and facilities of all academic and student affairs units.
  • Coordinates with CCASU Administration and Staff for Enrollment Management in the preparation of the class schedule each semester and approves the final class schedule.
  • Collaborate with the executive team and CCASU Administration and Staff to publish the academic catalog
  • Provides leadership in the recruitment, hiring, orientation, evaluation, retention and professional development of faculty, administration, and staff.
  • Champions faculty development and empowers faculty to become exceptional educators, fostering a learning environment that inspires and motivates students, supporting our journey toward advancing a creative economy.
  • Provides overall direction and leadership to staff assigned to student affairs functions, programs, operations and activities.
  • Leads close collaboration between campus and affiliate units in pursuit of CCASU goals.
  • Works with CCASU & ASU key personnel to establish college-wide protocols for faculty hiring, workload, and other relevant issues.
  • Provides leadership and oversight of curriculum development and implementation of curricula, courses, programs, and activities.
  • Ensures that faculty, academic and student services programs remain compliant with all applicable internal and external rules, regulations, guidelines, and requirements as well as with CCASU policies and procedures.
  • Manages, monitors, and administers area budgets. Implements budget controls and perform needs assessments for development of annual budgeting recommendations.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates instructional programs for continuous improvement.
  • Make recommendations to the CCASU CEO about the creation, improvement, and deactivation of instructional programs in collaboration with the college’s academic community.
  • Resolves student, faculty, and dean's issues/grievances and academic appeals through collaboration and appropriate appeal processes.
  • Develops and pursues professional relationships with area K-12 school systems, higher education institutions, and community organizations to increase educational partnerships and to determine community educational needs within the college's service area.
  • Participate as a college representative on various committees, meetings, and conferences.
  • Promotes an environment supportive of the CCASU mission, vision, charter, and strategic plan.
  • Provides effective, creative, and energetic leadership by promoting, supporting, and evaluating innovative approaches to teaching and learning and student success.
  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate or master’s degree in education administration, curriculum development, educational leadership, or a specific academic discipline.
  • Teaching Experience: At least 5-7 years of experience as a faculty member or educator in K-12 or higher education settings.
  • Administrative Leadership: 5-10+ years in leadership positions, such as Dean, Department Chair, Provost, or Director.
  • Proven experience overseeing academic programs, curriculum development, faculty management, program assessment and strategic initiatives.
  • Proven ability to advance comprehensive excellence in academic and student services settings.
  • Exceptional communication, strategic planning, and decision-making skills.

Work Environment

This is a key leadership role that requires a presence on campus, with occasional travel to represent CCASU at external events. The Associate Dean of Academic & Student Affairs plays a pivotal role in shaping the academic future of the institution and ensuring its ongoing success.

Location

This is an in-person position that this housed at the California College of ASU in Los Angeles, California.
