Description

The Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law’s Ross-Blakley Law Library seeks a full-time Reference Law Librarian at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Librarian to join the Law Library’s Reference Team. Both entry-level and experienced candidates are encouraged to apply.

The Ross-Blakley Law Library supports the educational information needs of the faculty and students of the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. Reference Law Librarians work closely with the College of Law faculty and students, providing research support and reference services. Reference Law Librarians are also expected to teach a one-credit upper-level legal research course each academic year. Other expectations of the Reference Law Librarian position include professional and service activities; legal scholarship is not a requirement of the position.

The Reference Law Librarian position is a full-time, benefits-eligible position. An entry-level appointment would be as an Academic Professional on an annual appointment under the rank of Assistant Librarian. An experienced candidate may be eligible for an annual appointment under the rank of Associate Librarian or Full Librarian. Essential Duties:

  • Meet one-on-one with law students to advise and instruct on legal research.
  • Provide research presentations and orientations to College of Law students.
  • Teach JD-level students in legal research methodology and skills within a for-credit class.
  • Work on in-depth research projects for the College of Law faculty and administration.
  • Provide reference services to assist library patrons in person, via the telephone, and through electronic means; participate in rotating coverage of the Reference Desk.
  • Create and maintain online instructional materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the goals of the department.
  • Physical presence at the workplace or the college is an essential function or requirement of this job.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an American Bar Association-accredited institution
  • Master of Library Science (M.L.S.) or equivalent library degree from an American Library Association accredited institution

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting legal research.
  • Experience providing reference services in a law library.
  • Experience working in an academic law library.
  • Experience in teaching.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Excellent organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
