Description
The School of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies and The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) are seeking first-year writing faculty associates for the Los Angeles, CA campus. A typical Faculty Associate course load is one to two classes per semester. Courses assigned will be first-year writing courses such as ENG 101 First-Year Composition and ENG 102 First-Year Composition and will be taught in person. Faculty Associate positions are one semester, non-benefits-eligible, fixed-term appointments with no tenure implications, not to exceed an average of .40 FTE per semester. The number of courses is contingent upon unit needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Faculty Associate assignments are paid at a minimum of $1,500 per credit hour over the length of the session.

Essential Functions of the Position:
- Teach courses to undergraduate students in a face-to-face format.
- Prepare syllabus, lectures and class materials, exams, and grade assignments and exams.
- Maintain regular availability to students, including office hours as appropriate to course modality.
- Monitor student success and regularly respond to student academic issues.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in English or related field at time of hire.
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with students from a wide variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including first-generation college students.
- Record of scholarly publication.
- Expertise in developing and teaching courses.
- Evidence of teaching excellence e.g., student evaluations, syllabi, peer observation, annual evaluations, teaching philosophy, etc.
- Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas or equivalent.
