The School of International Letters and Cultures (SILC) at ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY seeks applications for the position of Instructor in Classics. This is an in-person, full-time, benefits- eligible, non-tenure eligible appointment made on an academic year basis (Aug.16 – May 15). Subsequent annual renewal is possible contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, the needs of the university, and sufficient enrollment in assigned courses.

Anticipated start date is August 16, 2026 for the academic year 2026-2027.

Essential Functions:

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Teach online and in-person undergraduate courses including: ancient Greek and Roman civilization courses; classical and comparative mythology courses; language and literature courses in both ancient Greek and Latin.
• Other duties may include mentoring students.
• Anticipated teaching load is 5/5.

Required Qualifications:

• M.A. in Classics or a related field awarded by June 30, 2026, and one year of experience teaching classical languages and cultures.
• Demonstrated effectiveness of post-secondary teaching
• Advanced knowledge in Classical languages.

Desired Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Classics or a related field.
• Experience teaching large enrollment classes.
• Experience teaching lower-division classical language courses;
• Demonstrated effectiveness of post-secondary teaching in various modalities (online, face-to-face or hybrid).
• Experience supervising TAs or graders.
• Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students and communities to advance the principles of the ASU Charter.
