The School of Social Work (SSW) in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions at Arizona State University invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-track Clinical Assistant Professor and Social Work Supervisor position beginning October 2026. This position is designed to bridge academic instruction and clinical supervision, student learning integration, and interprofessional education within a community health environment. This is an in-person position in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

This Clinical Assistant Professor will serve as the Social Work Supervisor for a new longitudinal, interprofessional primary care rotation at St. Vincent de Paul’s (SVdP) new Eastside branch. In this role, the faculty member will establish student social work placements, clinical rotation workflows, and student learning tasks at the new Eastside facility. Responsibilities include providing direct supervision, coaching, and mentorship to Master of Social Work (MSW) students; delivering direct social work services alongside social work students and trainees from allied fields; and collaborating with faculty and preceptors across medicine, nursing, and allied health professions within an integrated, team-based learning environment that serves medically underserved communities.

This position also involves teaching leadership within the School of Social Work, including classroom instruction, curriculum development, student mentorship, and academic service. The candidate will deliver high-quality instruction in BSW and MSW programs, contribute to curriculum alignment with Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) competencies, and participate actively in School life and community-engaged initiatives.

About St. Vincent de Paul Medical Clinic

The St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) Medical Clinic is a premier safety-net clinic in Phoenix, Arizona, providing comprehensive ambulatory primary care and specialty services to uninsured and underserved populations. In partnership with Arizona State University, the clinic serves as a primary clinical site for an innovative, longitudinal interprofessional rotation designed to train future health professionals in team-based, patient-centered care.

Essential Functions

Clinical Supervision, Student Placements, & Interprofessional Education

• Establish student social work placements, supervisory structures, and student task workflows at the new St. Vincent de Paul Eastside branch location.
• Provide direct clinical supervision, coaching, documentation review, and competency-based evaluations for MSW students placed in the interprofessional clinical rotation.
• Oversee and deliver direct social work services, comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, crisis intervention, and case management in collaboration with trainees.
• Facilitate collaborative, team-based care and interprofessional education (IPE) alongside medical, nursing, and health professions faculty, preceptors, and trainees from allied professions.
• Model effective interprofessional communication, address social determinants of health and behavioral health, and advance integrated care learning tasks between social work and primary care teams.
• Participate in clinical rotation quality improvement, assessment, and ongoing refinement of the Eastside student experience.

Academic Instruction & Program Support

• Teach a 0.50 FTE instructional load (typically 5 courses per academic year) across BSW and MSW programs in-person at Phoenix-area campuses, online synchronous (Zoom), and online asynchronous formats.
• Actively mentor, advise, and engage with undergraduate and graduate students in person and online.
• Collaborate with full-time and adjunct faculty in course development, pedagogical innovation, and instructional delivery aligned with CSWE competencies and program learning outcomes.
• Participate in program assessment, curriculum mapping, accreditation-related activities, and continuous educational refinement.
• Engage in School, College, and University service through faculty governance, committee participation, program events, and collaborative governance.

Required Qualifications

• Master of Social Work (MSW) from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)-accredited program.
• Three years of post-MSW social work practice experience in a health or behavioral health care setting.
• Two years of post-secondary teaching experience in accredited BSW or MSW programs.
• Demonstrated experience in social work supervision or coordinating practicum placements for social work students or trainees.

Desired Qualifications

• Five or more years of post-MSW social work practice experience, particularly in primary care, integrated behavioral health, or community health clinic settings.
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Arizona.
• Experience designing student learning opportunities, establishing practicum placements, developing social work services, and/or developing rotation tasks in healthcare settings.
• Experience working in interprofessional settings and/or experience in interprofessional education.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching across multiple modalities (e.g. in-person, online synchronous, online asynchronous, hybrid).
• Evidence of strong teaching performance, including teaching in high-enrollment courses, and/or significant curriculum development.
• Experience with innovative teaching methods and/or contributions to pedagogy (e.g., integrating new technology or methods in instruction, leading study abroad programs, or conducting scholarship on teaching and learning).
• Experience teaching with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) and digital instructional tools.
• Record of professional service to the social work profession, applied scholarship, and/or community engagement.
• Ability to teach across several foundational and advanced curriculum areas, including generalist, clinical, or macro practice; HBSE (micro or macro); policy; or research.
• Demonstrated experience or potential for on-campus and online engagement with students and the School of Social Work community.
