The ASU+GSV Summit
Now in its 15th year, the ASU+GSV Summit is the world’s most important and impactful gathering of leaders across “preK to gray” education and workforce learning. The annual event is held in April in San Diego, where, in 2023, over 7,000 registrants (a record) gathered to address the transformation of learning and skills delivery leveraging key developments in technology including generative artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and many other solutions.
WHAT WE ARE SEEKING
We are seeking a strategic Director of Finance to strengthen and lead organization-wide financial operations and success. As the Director of Finance at GSV Summit, you will leverage exceptional financial planning skills to level-up the finance function, oversee day-to-day financial operations, set compliance policies, procedures, and best practices in order to optimize resources and ensure effective financial management across the organization.
This is a highly collaborative and cross-functional role. You’ll work with the CEO and key Summit executives to understand the overall business objectives in order to develop and implement financial strategies to surpass those objectives. As you oversee the day-to-day financial operations, you’ll work closing with Accounting. You’ll also work closely with cross-functional business units as you lead the budget setting, management and forecasting process for GSV Summit.
The Director of Finance will also play a pivotal role in providing senior leadership information and insights to support strategic decision-making, including financial risk assessments and preparing monthly, quarterly and ad-hoc reports for internal and external stakeholders, presenting financial insights, and more.

This role is remote in U.S. or based out of our New York City, Chicago or San Francisco office and reports to the CEO, GSV Summit and Partners.
WHO YOU ARE
EXPERIENCE
- 5-7 years of related professional experience
- Proven expertise in budgeting, forecasting, strategic financial analysis, and reporting
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field preferred
- Experience in event management or the edtech industry is a plus but not required
SKILLS:
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey financial information to diverse stakeholders.
- Adept at building and evolving systems and structures
- A proactive and results-oriented attitude, with a focus on continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Financial Strategy and Planning: Develop and implement financial strategies that align with GSV Summit's overall objectives. Drive org-wide budget setting and management, forecasting, and financial planning to optimize resources and support the organization's financial goals.
- Finance Function Development: Build out the finance function, including establishing financial policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure effective financial management across the organization.
- Budget Management: Lead the budgeting process for GSV Summit, collaborating with department heads to establish financial targets and track actuals against budgets. Oversee department-wide budgeting for the event and the organization.
- Financial Risk Assessment: Assess financial risks and proactively implement risk mitigation strategies to safeguard the financial health of GSV Summit and the organization. Continuously monitor and identify potential financial vulnerabilities and opportunities.
- Financial Analysis: Provide valuable financial analysis to support strategic decision-making by senior management. Prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders, presenting financial insights in a clear and actionable manner.
- Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, for both the event and the organization.
