The Team

The Global Content and Campaigns team is responsible for engaging priority audiences with compelling content and campaigns to help advance the foundation’s advocacy and programmatic goals and support its brand. The team’s responsibility also includes the development and implementation of integrated marketing campaigns and managing foundation channels (e.g., gatesfoundation.org, The Optimist newsletter, social media for foundation and leadership, etc.) and platforms (e.g., Goalkeepers report and events, the Discovery Center, Make Me Care About podcast, etc.).

The Brand, Editorial and Content team develops brand, campaign, and content strategies in alignment with foundation’s mission and its program and advocacy objectives. The team is accountable for leading all aspects of the successful execution and evolution of those strategies, in close collaboration with program and regional partners. The team defines the brand and creative direction in alignment with the brand strategy and works with our program and regional communications functions to develop and implement premier content for a variety of digital channels and campaigns.

Your Role

The Senior Communications Officer (SCO), Integrated Planning Lead, is responsible for developing and implementing integrated communications, content and audience engagement strategies in support of the foundation’s advocacy goals. Working with colleagues across the Communications Division, Global Policy and Advocacy Division, and co-chairs private offices, the work will include developing communications and campaign plans, writing creative and content briefs, cross channel promotion plans and post-campaign evaluations. This role will work closely with a creative and advocacy leads to ensure the relevant content aligns to the strategy, audience insights, and channel distribution plans. It will also work closely with our Measurement and Insights team to develop critical metrics, find opportunities for message and creative testing with key audiences, and provide insights and reporting on key communications efforts. This role will require working across a matrixed organization, advising a cross-functional team including peers who do not share a direct reporting line, requiring an authority abilities in demonstrating influence, not authority, to rally a team around a unified strategic vision.

What You’ll Do

Working with the members of the Comms Division the Integrated Planning Lead will develop a well-rounded communications and campaign strategy, and advise a cross-functional team to implement across multiple moments and ongoing content streams throughout the year. Core tasks will include:

  • Develop overarching communications plans to support key advocacy and brand objectives partnering closely with multiple inputters across Communications, Global Policy and Advocacy, co-chair private offices, and regional offices as needed

  • Outline channel and content strategies across foundation owned channels including web, Ideas, Optimist, and leadership and brand social media, in partnership with the Channels and Engagement team who will ultimately implement the strategy

  • Develop creative briefs as required, coordinating with various communications agencies and act as their primary point of contact for channel and media plans. Work closely with the content and creative lead to ensure the strategy manifests in the creative and content. Ensure the work is on brand, on strategy and reviewed by the accurate internal and partner collaborators.

  • Partner with channels, content, and media colleagues to ensure that the campaign strategy is driven across channels according to the plan.

  • Develop overarching learning agenda and critical metrics in partnership with Measurement and Insights team.

Your Experience

  • Shown expertise in marketing and digital campaigns and a strong understanding of current digital media / social platform landscape and related user behavior and/or audiences.

  • Understanding of media segmentation and buying process, global experience preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to effectively synthesize information to reach diverse audiences and build consensus.

  • Consistent record to lead and collaborate in a constructive manner and to build and sustain cross-functional relationships.

  • Knowledge of the non-profit sector and successful campaigns (previous experience with the foundation is preferred but not required)

  • Knowledge of earned media and leadership voice a plus.

  • Advanced degree with 7+ years of validated ability, or equivalent experience.

  • Experience launching campaigns that successfully integrate paid and earned, digital and traditional channels.

  • Experience developing marketing/communications campaigns that span multiple markets including the global south.

  • Experience working in communications in global health and development, across multiple issue areas, is a plus, not required.

The typical salary range for this role is $ 149,800 to $ 278,700 USD. The exact offer will be determined by a variety of factors such as the candidate’s individual skills, qualifications, and experience relative to the requirements of the role.
