About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Ellucian General Manager and customer Contract Administrator, the CIO will be responsible for providing technology leadership and management of technology systems and services. This includes management of strategic and tactical activities to ensure client satisfaction, technical delivery, contract compliance, and resource management at the client site. Creates and implements client’s Information Technology strategy. Responsible for working to align projects and operations with the institutional mission, vision and values, the incumbent should understand his or her customers, their needs and will apply best practices in higher education management to resolve issues.

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the information technology department including directing staff, who support administrative and/or academic computing, networking, user services, and other information technology functions
  • The CIO focuses on client liaison and strategic aspects of Higher Education activities at the client location
  • Developing a positive client relationship with customer constituency
  • Assess and anticipates technology projects and recommends appropriate action and resources
  • Identifies user needs, resolves problems, and directs building of teams to work across all levels of the organization.
  • Providing guidance, implementation support and management of, and facilitating the timely development and delivery of, Client’s Technology Plan, updates to the Technology Plan, the Initial and Annual Tactical Plan, the Network Analysis, the Transition Plan, and all Services hereunder.
  • Providing technology support for the Client’s mission and vision, and Client’s objectives and goals
  • Providing the deliverables, metrics and measurements specified or to be developed
  • Providing executive-level technology guidance, direction, and liaison.
  • Assisting in establishing information technology policies that promote centralized approval, acquisition, use and cost-effective application of technology.
  • Assisting in the structuring of and participating in an information technology governance and advisory structure involving appropriate policies and procedures and assisting in setting priorities and rendering operational decisions.
  • Providing status reports in a mutually agreed upon manner to the Client’s Contract Administrator detailing progress to plan, pending issues and recommendations for action.
  • Maintaining a technology organizational structure that is responsive to Client needs and adjusting as needed to meet changing Client needs.
  • Continuously managing Client Staff to provide a secure technology environment and maintain compliance with applicable external laws and regulations.
  • Assisting the Client in the creation and implementation of policies that promote the appropriate security of information technology resources.
  • Responding to audit recommendations and findings related to Client’s IT department, formulating, and implementing corrective actions as required based on Client-specified work priorities.
  • Supporting the Client’s data needs for external reporting requirements for financial, legal, personnel and student information.
  • Responding to legislative enactments that affect funding, student financial aid, privacy of student information, and similar issues where technology is involved.
  • Assessing policies and procedures for purchasing information technology resources, and recommending new best practices based upon this assessment.
  • Addressing relevant industry issues and making recommendations to implement technology changes.
  • Implementing Ellucian management methodologies and standards within the Client’s IT Staff who are managed by Ellucian.
  • Serving as a technology advocate across the campus by promoting the use and support of innovative technologies.
  • Representing and advancing technology issues at Client’s governance and advisory groups, upon request of the Client’s Contract Administrator.
  • Proposing solutions where technology can contribute to addressing the Client’s goals and initiatives.
  • Providing consultation to Client groups, executives and departmental managers on technical requirements, resource requirements (including staff, funding, equipment, and software), training requirements, recommended spending and work priorities and scheduling considerations for technology initiatives.
  • Providing realistic expectations and outcomes on the costs, benefits, schedules, and impact of technology projects.
  • Providing the Client community with updates and information on the status of technology programs through a variety of communication methodologies.
  • Remaining available and accessible to the Client’s faculty, staff, and students, in providing for the delivery of the Services.
  • Instructing Ellucian employees assigned to the Client’s site to adhere to Client policies of conduct.
  • Interfaces with and participates in all facets of the Ellucian Managed Services team functions.
  • Works with Higher Education regional management to coordinate corporate resource requirements to complete and update annual strategic plans.
  • Recognizes, creates, and tracks value-added and ROI activities for client.
  • Responsible for ensuring contract administration, extensions, and enhancements.
  • Translates and articulates administrative and educational goals of the institution into technical   initiatives.
  • Actively participates in budgeting, strategic, and tactical planning, business processes and database system strategy.
  • Prepares and submits required corporate reports in a timely manner.
  • Implements company policy, methodologies, procedures, and practices at site location.
  • Responsible for hiring all Ellucian staff assigned to support a client’s information technology operations.
  • Responsible for managing on-site personnel actions, staff training and development.
  • Communicates regularly and effectively with Higher Education management on significant site issues, risks, opportunities, and general progress towards contractual and business goals.

What you will bring

  • Experience in Higher Education Information Technology Support
  • 7+ years of experience showing advancement, which includes project management and/or leadership within IT Service Management and general industry experience.
  • Strong customer service / client relationship management experience required.
  • Able to work well with other people in a team oriented environment.
  • Experience working with clients to gather information about project needs, objectives, functions, features, and input and output requirements.
  • Manage competing priorities in a highly demanding environment.
  • Experience in Information Technology management is required.
  • Experience managing Enterprise Resource Planning operations in a higher education institution environment required.
  • MS Project and Office suite proficiency.
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and oral.)
  • Strong organizational/project management skills and utilization of MS Project, Visio, or other PM tools.
  • Excellent problem solving and trouble shooting skills (both technical and non-technical.)
