VP, Business Controls Specialist

The Vice President of Business Controls Specialist reports into Business Controls Organization and leads controls initiatives across Enterprise Partnership designed to establish an effective operational risk and control environment, working along with business process and control owners, Operational Risk, Compliance, Engineering, and Internal Audit.

About Business Controls

Enterprise Partnership (EP) Business Controls is part of the Enterprise Operational Risk organization, and its objective is to collaborate with business stakeholders to improve controls operational effectiveness through comprehensive inventory, design effectiveness, governance, monitoring, testing, and risk assessment of end-to-end operational processes and ensuring risks and controls achieve their intended objective.

Role Description:

  • Responsible for partnering with Business Product and Engineering on the proper planning, management, and new control and improvements.
  • Manage multiple control transformation programs and tracks action items and provides reports to management
  • Facilitate the identification of risk coverage gaps to drive necessary process enhancements and create detail plans to improve operational effectiveness and governance
  • Partner stakeholders to develop effective processes, procedures, controls, and metrics that ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, policies, and standards. Work with stakeholders to close gaps and adopt processes that will help grow the business in a compliant manner.
  • Lead different forums and thematic control reviews and ensure minimum standards of internal control commensurate the scale and nature of customer facing process operations.
  • Report on the adequacy of the control environment and on compliance with division control standard and polices.
  • Be a subject matter expert in controls and provide adequate advice and guidance on an effective control environment.
  • Create and implement requirements for evidence-based process and control designs focusing on clearly identifying potential points of failure, risk-ratings, and evaluations of control effectiveness.
  • Create escalation forums to transparently manage issues and potential issues. Integrate additional processes based on severity, recurrence, dependencies, and partner or business priority and challenge designs for delivering on commitments to ensure they are fit for purpose, sustainable, and able to meet commercial growth.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s or minimum 4 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience delivering multiple priorities simultaneously while working with a large number of internal partners.
  • Experience leading small high performing teams in a matrix organization to deliver change and improve performance through influencing and collaboration.
  • Knowledge of fundamental risk, controls, consumer financial services processes and delivery requirements. The ability to assess processes, make risk evaluations, and assess control designs. Confident to challenge experts and management in multiple disciplines.
  • Executive-level communications skills. Able to articulate quantitative and qualitative performance, issues, action plans, and resource requirements to multiple stakeholders at different levels in the company.
  • Experience defining and transforming control environment in consumer finance
  • Ability to navigate through sometimes ambiguous, results-oriented, and somewhat unstructured environments
  • Experience strategic problem solver; does not need all the information to navigate successfully.
