Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Process, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with the manufacturing process and product development for thermal/mechanical parts.
  • Experience with manufacturing best practices (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma), manufacturing automation, and production line development.
  • Experience with metals processing (e.g., Machining, Brazing, Soldering, Skiving, Zipper Fin stamping).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with thermal/mechanical manufacturing processes including tooling/fixturing and production line development for high volume.
  • Experience in delivering high-volume manufacturing solutions, resolving issues, leading yield improvements, and cycle time reductions for complex parts and assemblies.
  • Experience with thermal designs and simulations.
  • Ability to influence the product design process by proposing improvements with data.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with multi-geo teams on complex projects spanning multiple technologies.

About the job

Google's custom-designed equipment makes up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. The Manufacturing Operations team is responsible for providing the manufacturing capability to deliver this state-of-the-art physical infrastructure. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you evaluate the product designs and create the processes, tools and procedures behind Google’s powerful search technology. When vendors build parts for our infrastructure, you’re right there alongside ensuring manufacturing processes are repeatable and controlled. You collaborate with Commodity Managers and Design Engineers to determine Google’s infrastructure needs and product specifications. Your work ensures the various pieces of Google’s infrastructure fit together perfectly and keep our systems humming along smoothly for a seamless user experience.

Responsibilities

  • Be the Thermal Manufacturing Engineer lead on product development teams. Responsible for developing manufacturing strategy, performing Design for Excellence (DFX) and driving implementation of manufacturing solutions for thermal assemblies.
  • Drive concurrent engineering through effectively communicating design, process, tooling and material changes to manufacturing partners and design engineering peers. Provide manufacturing engineering expertise in supplier selection, qualification, and management.
  • Research, develop, and qualify advanced thermal manufacturing solutions to ready the supply chain for future product requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes and product designs. Identify process, tooling, and automation opportunities to support high volume manufacturing with quality, reduced cost, and performance repeatability.
  • Provide support for manufacturing and field quality issues, owning resolution of manufacturing/supplier issues and driving design issues cross-functionally.
